One-stop service center to boost Thailand in world ranking of business friendliness

BANGKOK (NNT) -- The Ministry of Commerce has established a one-stop service center to facilitate new entrepreneurs in starting businesses, hoping to upgrade Thailand as one of the top-ten countries most convenient for running a business.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Tuesday presided over the inauguration of the center at the Department of Business Development (DBD), Ministry of Commerce. The primary objective of the project is to develop a networking system that connects alliance agencies including the DBD, the Revenue Department, and the Social Security Office.

The network will allow the state agencies to share relevant information necessary for starting a business such as registration, tax ID and business accounts for employers. People who wish to establish a juristic body or a proprietorship can proceed with the registration process all at once by filling a single form.

The one-stop service center has been launched at the DBD headquarters in Nonthaburi province. The service will be made available at DBD offices nationwide by 1 October 2010.

The improvement of the service will help streamline the work process and make business startups easy. The project is expected to move Thailand in the ranking of the most business friendly environments arranged by the World Bank, up from the 12th currently to the 9th in the near future.

Reading this makes me wonder whether they are actually trying to be business friendly or simply trying to boost their rating. If all they are doing is bringing the bureaucracy under one roof, it seems little more than PR.

If a country needs such a one-stop service, it tells on the hel_l of bureaucracy a new business will have to face after the first year of starting up.

Better to cleanup and simplify the bureaucracy once and for all, and the world will know what they will and will not face.

Wow, Thailand wants become one of the 10 most business-friendly countries!

Then it would be on par with the BVI, Panama, Seychelles, Cayman, Belize, etc. ?

and when will they change the law so the foreigner can actually own business 100%?

and when will they set up an agency to ensure those business can obtain licenses in a "proper" way rather then having to bribe everyone from street cleaner to BIB and thats just to have a clothing shop.
