I currently live in Phuket but am going to Phangnan in December for a few days. I'm going to drive to Surat Thani and am wondering if it is worth taking my car over on the car ferry. It would be good for us to have the car whilst we are there as our resort is quite isolated.

The problem is although there are many websites about the ioptions available I cant find out any real accurate information. Basically I have worked out that there is the Seatran Ferry and the Raja ferry but I cant work out the prices involved and the exact times that they take to get to Phangnan. As far as I can tell the car ferry takes the same time as the passenger ferries which seems to be 2.5 hours Surathani to Phangnan.

Does anyone have any experience with this and can help? Is it worth the effort or best to just leave the car in Surathani and travel as a passenger only?

OK thanks but I thought someone might know of the costs, travel time etc. Is it a simple easy process, just drive up, pay, then drive onto the ferry?

I'll give them a call on Monday.

Where is your resort located? If its really isolated and you are driving a car it may not be accessible. Some areas are 4 -wheel drive only and some areas are accessible only by boat.

OK...good question

I'm staying at the Centara Pariya Resort & Villas Koh Pha Ngan (formerly Pariya Haadyuan, Koh Pha Ngan) located on Yuan Beach.

Can I get there in a 2x4 pickup

If the cost is gonna be approx 1000 baht for 4 people and the truck, then it would deffo be worth taking it

I don't recommend you to go at Pariya Haad Yuan with a 4x2 pickup. The road is ugly for a normal 4x4 too and after all these rainy afternoons, the road should be in very poor conditions.

Usually people go to Haad Yuan from Haad Rin by taxi boat (2/300 baht/person one way, but can bargain). Is a 15 minutes trip in the good season from Haad Rin beach and 30 minutes from the main pier in the bad weather

They have their speedboat living from Centara Samui upon request...

You might take a ferry to samui instead of Phangan and park your car there... Just an idea B)

there is another way. this 1 might get me put in larn kaa deang but anyway.

drive to donsak. go to a garage. get them to strip the car down.

then carry as much of the spare parts on as a foot passenger as u can. get the other parts sent by post office. then re assenble the car in Phangyan. or u could do the whole thing in phuket.

lucky for me there is no loonie bin in samui yet so i am free to walk the streets. have a nice day

OK, so i think I will just leave my truck in Surat Thani, sounds like too much hassle if the road is that bad. I knew I should have bought the 4x4 model.

It would have been good to get the speed boat from Centara Samui. Could have got the ferry to Samui then travelled direct from there to the resort. I checked the price though at at 2500 baht per head (there are 4 of us) I cant justify the cost.
