Chinese Style Secret Price Marking System

Featured Replies

Anyone know the "secret" Chinese style price marking system, used in utility shops etc.

Are the codes specific to Thailand or is it Chinese global?

How to crack it?

I was shown once, but dont actually remember the exacts of it, but:

The price listed, you take away the first digit and the real price reveals itself?? :o

Sorry George I forget, but my guess post might jolt someone elses memory.

It is normally a combination of letters and digits, so your idea doesn't work, Tornado.

Examaple:

Y43ER4

3T98QT

(not real examples!)

Hmmm, tornado. Some codes are letters only.

Mental note: change current codes.

:o

In uk every business that uses a code has they own key.

The key is nine or ten characters and is usually one or two words so that it is easy to remember.

Example : code = new prices

n=1 e=2 w=3 etc, etc

There is no reason why you cannot put some numbers in there

A universal code would be unwelcome as all your competitors could walk into your shop and read off your cost prices.

Dont worry George he is just talking out his bum arent you shirley? just to get his posts up :o

George,

The trick is to go into the shop and make a note of which symbols the shop uses for their price code.

Then use an AZ Scrabble Word Finder to get the word used as the code.

It is explain here: http://www.cockeyed.com/lessons/tags/tags.html

Interesting. What's the purpose of this secret code? To make inventory or dealing on the spot easier?

Only one here that has a clue!! You hit it right on... the others are just pulling it out of their <deleted>! :o

Yes it is a legacy really and not needed today if you have computers.

You can talk to a customer and do a bulk deal without having to go and check your buying in price. I used to use one a long, long time ago.

It also shows the cost price of that actual item and not the current price.

Mental note:  change current codes.
