3.3 bn THB capital inflows reported

BANGKOK (NNT) -- About 100 million USD or 3.3 billion THB of foreign capital is reported to have flown into Thailand since June 2010 thanks to the improvement in overall political situation, according to the Bank of Thailand (BoT).

According to Financial Markets and Reserve Management Department Senior Director, Wongwatoo Potirat, about 20-30 billion THB of foreign capital outflow was reported in Thailand from the beginning of the year until the end of May 2010, when the country was suffering from the political abyss.

Foreign capital movements during this period however remain unclear thanks to many factors such as uncertainty of the European debt crisis after the International Monetary Fund has deferred its assistance.

In addition, the US economy is not improving as expected after the recent release of many economic indicators, especially the high unemployment problem. Investors therefore have been shifting more of their capitals to Asian countries including Thailand.

As for the appreciation of Thai Baht against Euro dollar, the volatility of Thai Baht movement is confirmed to be low, at about 2-3%, comparing with others’ in the region, at 5-6%. There has been no sign of currency speculation reported thus far.
