Garmin Nuvi Card Question

Featured Replies

I have an older Garmin Nuvi 200 w/latest version of Thai Maps on it... Has worked Great and does everything that I need / want it for.... Last week it fired up and worked good with the exception that it did not show any roads / maps... My little car was there, it gave location information, but no streets shown on the screen...

After searching the web for anyone with simular problem or suggestion, and finding none, I finally pulled and reinserted the memory card and it worked fine... Since then it has happened once again, and once again pulling and reinserting the card did the trick, but I am concerned that the card or contections may be getting ready to die on me...

Is it possible to copy the information from the old card to a new card without having problems??? Or is there any special instructions for doing such that I should worry about???

No, it's not possible to transfer the map to another data card, since it is a locked map and the unlock codes embedded in it corresponds only to the original card ID. In other words this map would not be unlocked when used in another data card. The workaround is to generate (illegit) codes for the new card (Card ID) or for your Nuvi (Unit ID), so that the map will be unlocked.

Using an eraser/rubber gently clean the gold contacts on the card. should then be fine.

I would have thought that the ID Code needed to match up with the individual GPS Unit, and therefore if copied then inserted into the Orginal GPS Unit, that there would be no problem... But then I know virtually nothing regarding such things...

I guess if needed I could look around the web for solutions / directions...

Thanks,

I did use a bit of Contact Cleaner on it the first time, but still had the 2nd occurance... Just have to play it by ear...

if you bought the map in Thailand from original source (ESRI, or authorized Garmin Dealer), the map should come on a CD. And there should not be any problem to install the map on any other SD card.

The Garmin Thai map provided by ESRI is locked only to the GPS (based on the unit ID)

*) (copy folder "Garmin" with the Eng. map version)

That is what I was thinking, that there should not be a problem if used with the same GPS Unit... Not trying to cheat Garmin or anyone, just want to have a new card to replace the old one, with the same data on it... I actually purchased the unit used, but only for my own personal use...

There are ESRI Thailand Street Map v10.1 plug & play microSD cards advertised on ThaiVisa from a third party vendor. Be sure to request the English language map version.
