I will make a one or 2 day(s) business trip to Samui in the next few weeks and I will need to go to several places on the island. I wish to hire a chauffeur-driven car on a daily basis. Pick-up and return at the airport. I would prefer to make the car arrangement a few days prior to my trip rather than negociate with the drivers present at the airport upon my arrival.

Any suggestion? Contact information would be appreciated as well as rates I should expect to pay per day. Thanks ! :jap:

In the past we have used a girl called Anna who has a nice big new 6 seater SUV and charged us only 300baht for the Nathon Chaweng run. I believe she does private hire for the clients of the big hotel in Ban Makam. If you want her number PM me.

I am looking for a english speaking thai driver as well. I will be staying in Ko Samui for possibly a month or even longer. I would need him to work exclusively for me and act as a translator and negotiator. What should one expect as a normal job description? I am having tough time acquiring good long term accommodations at a reasonable rate since all the websites I have found are promoting resorts and hotels at inflated daily rates geared towards vacationers I cannot find a website where locals would post classified for apartments or houses available for rent by the month directly from owners with reasonable prices ment for the local community. If anyone knows of any good places they could reccommend near the hub area which seems to be chaweng for what i understand or even classified website that would be great help. Finding a reputable trustworthy driver / personal assistant during my stay in Ko Samui is my next priority so any place to find such a person would also be greatly appreciated as well.

The only website I can think of is pantip.com, but it's all in Thai.

Most landlords usually don't bother (or even know) to post classifieds like what you are looking for on the Internet.

You'll have to drive around and look for any vacancies.

I hired a motorbike taxi to help me look around for any vacancies. These people usually know where to look and I think you should try too.

On the accommodation front - try some of the real estate people. I look after properties and I get quite a few referrals from them. Look at their web-site and pick your budget. On the whole, Lamai is a cheaper area, and not too far. Choengmon/ Bangrak is more expensive and close to most things. Chewang is variable and can be great or hell. West coast has some good places - but not near anything except Nathon!

I will pm two companies that I use at the north end of Koh Samui

On the reputable/trustworthy/driver person bit - about as rare as rocking horse <deleted> but they do exist. Do not discount females in your search. For every good one, there will be a bus-load of 'not so good'.

Thank you for the pm but I am again a bit confused to where a good central location to settle would be. I was under the impression that it was the Chewang area but if it varies im not about to take a chance. Also the driver / personal assistant part I cannot find any place where there is a large database of people posting looking for employment website. If you know would be great. I was thinking of trying one of those rent a car and come with a driver places when I get into bangkok next week as these are all i have been able to find but since I have other need what I really am looking for is a full time personal assistant that can drive and has his own vehicle preferably. Once again any help is appreciated.

Without giving away too much information, why are you here? This is going to dictate where you want to go and how often etc. That will help us tell you what is a good location for your needs. But remember it is only a small island; the ring road is only 65km or so. 15 minutes drive Chaweng to Lamai, or Chaweng to Bophut.

Not sure I can help with your personal assistant/translator/driver/negotiator. Those people are few and far between and there is no website for them - certainly not here on Samui. It's a tall order; someone with all those skills, just for one month. Most people on the island speak some English, a nice car will set you back 1,000 THB a day, and there aren't that many roads to get lost on, and anyone negotiating on your behalf in a language you don't understand might not always have your best interests at heart!:whistling:

 Well, I was!

Maybe now I am not, as the only thing I can come up with to help the OP is the idea of hiring a taxi driver for the duration. It will cost hmmmm .... THB 2,000 a day plus gas? He/she will certainly know their way around better than some, their English will be OK, and hopefully their Thai. The OP might get dumped on from a great height with the negotiation skills, but that risk is pretty much guaranteed on this island sadly.

Anyone else with the skills he requires will be either in full time employment, or far too busy making money for themselves!

I'd do it for a few beers..........no in fact one every half hour......with an hours break every four and an egg poacher thrown in. :)

i think I may have to take you up on that beer payment method ; although Im not sure how productive we would become nearing the end of the day .... ahah .... also negotiating intoxicated we might be going the wrong way ...lol ..... anyways without giving away too much information I am going to thailand for a variety of different reasons dependent on the outcome my time spent in Thailand may be extended even permantly and would like to do further investigating on a more personal level being that I do not speak Thai, I feel at a strong disadvantage and also want to do things at a local level without foreigner label on my head. I have employed someone similar to this here without the need to be a driver. I thought there would be many people looking for work but upon further research really hard to find anyone that i feel comfortable with online yet.

Impossible I am afraid.

Samui is a tourist island. People come and go all the time to have a holiday here or to work here. The true 'local' is very limited in number and very adept at negotiating. I hope you are not going to be disappointed with your visit.

To solve your problem when you pass through Bangkok on your way to Samui pick up a bed warmer from Nana plaza most can speak good english and are excellent guide's and they also might be able to drive. You will enjoy your stay.
