BANGKOK (NNT) -- Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra has ensured international media that Bangkok is ready, with her arms unfurled, to welcome foreign tourists back to the City of Angels.

In a live interview with CNN in the “World Business Today” program, Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said the situation in Bangkok has returned to normalcy; in addition, the economy of the capital city has recovered far better than expected, with a potential to grow by 7%.

The political upheaval that plunged the city into a mire of violence has not affected foreign tourists and business entrepreneurs. Only Thai people have been troubled, the Governor said in response to the question about negative effects of domestic political wrangling on the tourism sector.

Asked how the capital city could return to normalcy amid the ongoing enforcement of the Emergency Decree in many provinces across the country, MR Sukhumbhand answered that everything would return to normal very soon.

The Governor announced that public utilities and infrastructure of the capital city such as sky trains, water management and treatment systems would be improved in order to efficiently serve incoming foreign tourists.

With 40% to 50% occupancy rates in hotels , it looks like Bangkok recover ...  <img class="bbc_emoticon" alt="" src="http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif"> <br>

It’s a long story about me having to see a man about a dog, “really a dog” and I had to walk from the intersection of soi 6 and 4 nana to Sukhumvit road and catch a cab home.

This was at about 2:15am.

I last did this walk about 2 years ago (I promise) and it was impossible to walk up the street, must have been at least a few hundred people, mostly smashed out the heads tourists looking for some action and dirking booze in illegal small bars on the street and food stalls.

On the night is question, this time I counted 3 ladyboys, me, one non Thai in a suit and 3 Thai ladies of the night, one looking a bit strange. It was like walking through a ghost town.

Look’s like Bangkok nightlife based tourism is doing well then.

Absolute &lt;deleted&gt; - although I am not surprised.

During the trouble some tourists/foreigners were injured, and some foreign reporters were killed. A lot of people had vacations affected as well. Plus I have non-Thai friends with (non-bar) businesses in BKK which have seen turnover nosedive. And not to mention the continuing state of emergency. I see the negative efects lingering for a long time unfortunately, not helped by such official denials that there are any problems.

Thailand does not need external enemies - they are so adept at screwing themselve foreign help is not needed.
