Tradition Thai Dress - Taylor Or Store Recomendations Needed

Featured Replies

My wife always wanted a beautiful, traditional Thai Dress. Since her birthday is coming up I am looking for a Taylor or Store which others have used and can be recomendet. I am aware there billions of Taylors in and arround Sukhumvit, but from what I know they are more specialized in male and female suits for tourists.

Can anyone point me in the right dierction? Maybe with some pictures if someone's wife has done it, too?

Surprisingly enough {not really}, Bangers is not the place to secure traditional goods - as a varitable and diverse course. More than likely, you'll have to flee the big bad city to find decent traditional old-school garments. One can find formal/dress sarongs most anywhere where tradition is still observed. Take a couple of days off......and drive to Khon Kaen or Kanchanaburi or Chiang Mai where the markets for these outstanding garments are more valued than the bleak and lifeless metropolis. Shops, taylors, clothiers, markets abound in the real world of Thailand {not BKK}.

There's a number of stalls selling traditional silk dresses and accessories in pratunam market. From the corner of the street pantip plaza sits on, walk away from the world trade centre. The the stalls are located down the first or second alley of the clothes market.

The stalls have a large selection of various styles, quality and sizes ready made. Alterations can be made in the shop. My wife has bought a couple there for formal occasions.

isnt the stuff arround Pratunam 'Low end" and "low quality"?

Did you have a look? Decide for yourself.

I reckon you should go and have a look before you decide that Farma's wife wore 'low end' clothing :)

If you decide it's not for you send me pm and I'll ask my friend, I know she's had similar stuff before, but check the stuff at pratunam first

Farma, i didnt want to insult you. I am sorry if it came over that way. Last time I have been to the market there is probally 5 years ago. We will check it this week. Sorry once againa and thanks for you help.

No worries, The shops I'm referring to are long established family run silk shops, not the high turnover stalls you also find in the market. They'll post overseas or deliver to your hotel. In my opinion they're at least worth a look.

Farma, are you able to mark the location i google maps, or do you have a business card?

I can only give you directions. From the corner of Petchaburi road and Rachaprapop walk along Rachaprapop past the pedestrian overpass. The market alleyway with the silk shops are just past there. I can't remember the exact alleyway.
