I bought this for my move over to Bangkok and was pleasantly surprised at how much information it contained. Thought I would pass this gem on. Although I've yet to arrive in Bangkok, I have a feeling that I will be using this quite a lot.

Periplus Bangkok Street Atlas (First Edition)

Product information from the retailer that I bought it from:

Paperback: 336 pages

Product Dimensions: 10.6 x 7.6 x 0.7 inches

Shipping Weight: 1.7 pounds

Publisher: Periplus Editions; 1 edition (April 15, 2009)

Legend

As you can see it lists a lot more than just the roads. It shows bus stops, parking, gas stations, hotels, restaurants, markets, stores, schools, churches, apartments, banks, hospitals, police stations, and post offices among many other points of interest.

Map

The maps are clear and easy to navigate. Grid based which corresponds with the indexes in the back of the book. Page numbers listed at the top/bottom/left/right show you where the adjacent map is located. Smaller roads are not named but shown. Major road names are listed in both English and Thai.

Street Index

Since the map is grid based, finding a specific street is easy.

Building Index

My favorite section. I love that it lists so many locations in this atlas. I did; however, find one issue. Some businesses with many locations (Tesco, Carrefour) are not all listed in the index even though they are shown on the maps. Other businesses with multiple locations are not affected so it must just be an error.

Overall: 9/10

The index errors kept this book from being pretty much perfect.

Note: I am in no way affiliated with the publisher of this book. I won't provide a direct link to this book but its easy to find online if you want it.

Edit: Added information.

We all in Thailand hope you and yours will have a wonderful grand time. :jap:

Is this the very first visit to the Venice of the East? :D

Most of the most beautiful canals in Bangkok itself have already been paved over by concrete. But the city itself still has aplenty to offer to everyone.

Yeah I'm a Bangkok virgin. I will be there in a few days though. Absolutely cannot wait.

Just ordered the last one in stock from Amazon.com, Thanks for the heads up.

No problem. Just a note for others interested, the same thing happened with me when I ordered mine. It was the last one but they quickly added more within a couple of days. It seems they don't keep many in stock.

THere are a couple of other Bangkok street atlases produced locally that are better, i.e., more detailed and up to date. Try Asia Books for a good selection. Best of all is one put out by the Bangkok Real Estate Association, which shows practically every building in the city. That one is a bit out of date. There's another that I have that is more up to date than the real estate one. Periplus ranks third behind these two, IMO.
