Hotel And Itinary For Elderly Parents.

I will be returning to Thailand to get married over Christmas this year, and my parents want to come out for the wedding. They are in their late 60s and not so mobile, dad suffers greatly from the heat.

They wat to spend say 10 - 14 days out there, 4 of which will be in Nakon Sawan with me for wedding, accomodation there will be arranged by my wife.

I know BKK and Thailand fairly well, I will spend maybe a week with them but also want to leave them at some point. Trouble is, having stayed in budget places I don't know any mid range hotels suitable for them.

So I'm trying to plan and greatful for any advice.

Some thoughts;

Should they take package holiday from UK (I could take them to Nakaon Sawan for wedding) OR book flights / hotel seperately?

If booking flights seperately can anyone recommend BKK hotel, not too expensive and suitable for elderly, in east BKK.

They would also like 2 or 3 days on beach. I'm thinking of Pattaya just as it's close, again any recomendations of hotels etc.

Also suggestions on day trips suitable for the elderly.

Thanks everyone,

Robin.

I would suggest Hua Hin rather than Pattaya for your folks. Lot less of a bar scene there but still some nice beach scenery, good restaurants and nice hotels also a bit cooler than Bkk or Pattaya. Pattaya might also be a bit too much in your face scene if you follow my drift. In Hua Hin, you pretty much have to search out the bar scene to find it.

Check out some of the websites for the hotels/price/location you might be interested in. Think there is an advertiser on this site or try asiarooms or asiatravel.

Most hotels have access to professional guided tours for day trips and there are probably 7 or 8 different good day tours for visitors in Bkk depending on their interests. Check out World Travel Services in Bangkok.

Good luck.

You are talking the highest part of the high season for tourists and extra charge for Xmas and new years meals required at most hotels. Do not know what kind of travel plans are available but that might be a good option as they probably have experience with older travelers. Don't have current experience with hotels in Bangkok but you might want to define "eastern" a little better (would that include Ratchada?). For Pattaya I would use the Jomtien beach and perhaps the Jomtien Garden Hotel which is directly across from beach so easy walk to sand.

Hi,

My brother and his wife came out to see me last winter ( my brother is 71 ) I booked them in at Ambassador on Suk. Rd. for the first week because they said they wanted to travel around later. They liked it so much, they stayed another 10 days. The Skytrain station is almost on the doorstep so they used this to get around Bangkok. It's also possible to book trips from the hotel where the tour co. picks you up at the door. I was very surprised but they said it was so easy to get around. Just before Christmas they came to Pattaya where I'd made a reservation at Sabai Lodge, Soi 2. They transferred to new part on Soi 1. Here again they enjoyed, being within easy walking distance to beach and shops. They were in Thailand for 6 weeks and enjoyed every minute. Hope this helps.

As it is Christmas and your dad doesn't cope with the heat, why not get them up to Chiang Mai? The weather is cooler, there is lots to see and it is easy to get around.

Take them to the Elephant Conservation Centre, Doi Suthep, Monk Chat, the Sunday Walking Street etc.

I think they may just love it. Something new...

At least Xmas is the coolest time of year.

If they are going to come to Pattaya, instead of the Dusit or Marriott, it might be worth looking at Cabbages and Condoms resort. Don't be put off by the name it's a charity to support agriculture and education in the North of the country. The place has beautifully landscaped gardens a pool and a beach. It's restaurant is good with a reasonably priced wine list and a great atmosphere. Rooms and or bungalows are available at good rates... Put the name into Google and get the web site...

My Mum came over for my brother's wedding and stayed on Koh Chang at Klong Prao, she would have preferred the Amari or Aya Pura but the rest of us wouldn't budget for that - (8000 baht per night!)
