Prosecution review completed, 19 red-shirts to face terrorism trial

Public prosecutors on Wednesday completed their review just hours before the 84-day deadline to try 19 red shirts for terrorism.

The review is applicable to those under remand and prosecutors have yet to decide on the fate of those remaining at large.

The defendants for terrorism trial include Veera Musigapong, Jatuporn Promphan, Natthawut Saikua, weng Tojirakarn, Kokaew Pikulthong, Kwanchai Praipana or Sarakham, Karun Hosakul, Wiphuthalaeng Pattanaphuthai, Pichet "Phumikitti" Sukchindathong, Suksek Pholteu, Charan Loypoon, Amnart Inthachote, Chayut Laicharoen, Sombat Makthong and Surachai Thewarat.

The remainders are Jeng Dokchik, aka Yoswarit Chuklom, Nisit Sinthuprai, Rachata Wongyod and Yongyuth Tuammee.

Those remaining at large are Thaksin Shinawatra, Arisman Pongruangrong, Suporn Atthawong, Payap Panket, Adisorn Piengket and Wipoj Arpornrat.

The public prosecutor has filed suits against 19 red-shirt members with the Criminal Court with a review of the testimonies scheduled for Monday.

The authorities are still on the hunt for 6 other red-shirt members who have fled.

BANGKOK: -- The Office of Attorney General (OAG) has indicted 19 of the 25 leaders and supporters of the anti-government 'Red Shirt' movement United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) on terrorism charges in connection with political unrest during April-May in Bangkok and provinces.

The 19 indicted are Veera Musikhapong, Jatuporn Prompan, Natthawut Saikua, Weng Tojirakarn, Korkaew Pikulthong, Kwanchai Praipana, Yosawaris Chuklom or Jeng Dokchik, Nisit Sinthuprai, Karun Hosakul, Wiphuthalaeng Pattanaphumthai, Phumkitti or Pichet Sukchindathong, Suksek Polsue, Jaran Loipoon, Amnart Inthachote, Chayut Laicharoen, Sombat Makthong, Surachai Thewarat, Rachata Wongyod and Yongyuth Thuammee.

The OAG have not yet indicted the six others accused of the same charges because they are still at large -- ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Arisman Pongruangrong, Payap Panket, Adisorn Piangket, Pol Lt-Col Waipote Arpornrat and Suporn Atthawong.

The prosecutors had coordinated with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to arrest them.

Deceased army specialist general Khattiya Sawasdipol was deleted from the list.

The Court had set the date for hearing on August 16.

The terrorism case is related to their alleged roles in inciting protesters and Red Shirt movements in the capital and other provinces leading to violence and damage to government buildings, department stores, and the loss of military weaponry worth several billion baht.

The cases are all focused on their alleged roles in the disorder of April and May in inciting and leading Red Shirt supporters and their movement to storm Parliament on April 7, to confront and scuffle with military personnel at the First Army Region headquarters on April 10, to protest and invade the compound of the Thaicom satellite TV ground station in Pathum Thani, and to block traffic leading to Phra Pinklao Bridge. Thai prosecutors to indict top Red Shirts for terrorism

BANGKOK (AFP) -- Thai prosecutors said Wednesday they would indict 19 leaders and supporters of the anti-government "Red Shirt" movement on terrorism charges in connection with recent political unrest.

They include three key protest leaders -- Red Shirt chairman Veera Musikapong, opposition lawmaker Jatuporn Prompan and Kokaew Pikulthong, who stood as an opposition candidate in a recent Bangkok by-election.

The suspects have already been arrested and charged and many have been held in detention for almost three months.

"Evidence from investigators shows that there are sufficient grounds to indict the suspects on terrorism charges," the Office of Attorney General said in a statement.

The Red Shirts' lawyer, Karom Poltaklang, said he was confident the suspects would be proven innocent.

Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will indict fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who faces an arrest warrant for terrorism but lives in self-imposed exile overseas.

Two months of protests by the Red Shirts, aimed at forcing immediate elections, triggered a series of clashes between demonstrators and troops that left at least 90 people dead -- mostly civilians -- and nearly 1,900 injured.

Most top Red Shirts surrendered to police after the army launched a deadly assault on the movement's fortified encampment in the heart of Bangkok on May 19.

Some others are in hiding, including Arisman Pongruangrong, who led the storming of an Asian summit in the Thai resort of Pattaya in 2009.

After the May crackdown, Reds leaders asked their thousands of supporters to disperse, but enraged protesters went on a rampage of arson, setting fire to dozens of buildings, including a shopping mall and the stock exchange.

Thailand's Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected an appeal by Thaksin and his family against the seizure of 1.4 billion dollars of their assets in February for abuse of power.

Just1Voice- You DO blatantly take sides. As Rubl pointed out the cases against the PAD crims are ongoing. It is a bit sad that they haven't progressed quicker. Perhaps if they had fielded armed insurgents and then torched BKK they would have moved quicker still? No double standards here- Civil disobedience and illegal behaviour is one thing- treason, sedition and armed revolution another.

PAD leaders have been indicted, charged, bailed. Their case progressing (slowly). Please, do your homework first.

Ideally that would include learning about the Red leaders earlier violent riot in July 2007, for which they were not indicted until July 2010. The "double standard" is that the PAD leaders were indicted earlier than 3 years.

26 red shirts to face arson trial in Udon Thani

Provincial prosecutors on Wednesday completed their review on cases involving red shirts in Udon Thani, deciding to target a first batch of 26 for trial.

The Udon Thani Provincial Court has scheduled Thursday for notifying charges to the defendants.

The defendants will be tried on two separate cases, prosecutor Sirichai Suthiwirakachorn said.

In the first case, some 71 red shirts have been named defendants for charges related to the torching down of the Udon Thani provincial hall on May 19, the day of riots after the main rally of the red shirts ended in Rajaprasong, Bangkok.

Of the 71, 11 have been arrested and under remand. They will be prosecuted while police are conducting the manhunt for the other 60.

In the second case, 15 of 46 red shirts arrested have been named defendants for charges related to attempted arson at Muang District Office in Udon Thani.

Pending the review by the Department of Special Investigation, the unindicted 31 would be freed from remand if the DSI decided not to press charges for violating the state of emergency.

The two cases are among nine legal proceedings related to May 19 riots. The third case, related to the burning of the Udon Thani municipal office is expected to reach the trial stage by next week.

The remaining six cases are still in the investigative stage.

To put it another way.

The words and actions of the Red Leaders on their stages,

made me quite scared for what could happen, and they did it for an extended time,

and escallated their actions to the expected violent end, that I feared.

In the final results their words, and orders for their supporters to do actions,

caused violence, and fear for many Thais and farangs across the nation.

In the end their violence instigated against the populace, in the name of

bringing down the government was very great and horrific, and ultimately

cost many lives, injuries and financial problems for many right up to destitution.

The wording is rather syntax and requires an analytic essay, if such a statement was made in 'say' ...the house of commons' the speaker would interrupt, and ask for re-phrasing in order ensure that the statement could be understood, but never mind.
