Hi to all,

I want to surprise my wife by being the parents in the uk to visit us.

Can someone advice me of what kind of document should I send to her parents to apply for the UK visa?

Thanx!!!

Maybe you should tell us more about your circumstances and then you will get a lot more informed answers. Things like do your wifes parents have the means to support themselves and fund the trip etc etc.

They apply using form VAF1B, details of how to apply can be found here, and see also the supporting document checklist ; not everything on the list will be relevant, but you should supply as much as you can; if in doubt include it, better to provide something they don't need than miss something they do.

They will each need to complete an application form and pay the fee, but you can use the same supporting documents for both of them.

The finances for the trip can come from you, your in-laws, even a third party or any combination of these; whoever is contributing towards the finance must include evidence of their ability to do so, as per the checklist.

You should also provide evidence of the accommodation available to them during their visit, showing that there is at least one room for their exclusive use. Presumably they will be staying with you, so you also need to show that you can grant them permission to do so; evidence such as a mortgage statement if you own or a letter from your landlord if you rent.

Refusal of a family visit can be appealed, so the entry clearance officer must have a very good case to justify a refusal.

You may also find Guidance - Visitors (INF 2) and Guidance - Sponsors (INF 3) helpful.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I have a question related to family visas. Is it likely that a family visit will be given if your spouse just has a settlement visa or is it recommended to wait until your spouse has ILR?

Obviously the family member being visited has to be legally resident in the UK, but as long as they are the type of visa/leave to remain they have is irrelevant.

So a settlement visa would suffice? I'm thinking of the visit from the family member (sister) being just a holiday so am I right in assuming it will be a normal visit visa, and if so who would be the sponsor myself or my wife? (who hopefully will have as a spouse settlement visa when her sister wants to visit next year)

Yes, a settlement visa is fine. I would suggest that you and your wife sponsor the visit jointly, which is what my wife and I do when members of her family visit.

(b ) the father, mother, brother or sister of the applicant's spouse;

(c ) the spouse of the applicant's son or daughter;

(d) the applicant's stepfather, stepmother, stepson, stepdaughter,
