Hi

Looking for a bit of advice....I have gone throught a lot of the posts and got some good advice

I have only been going out with my g/f for a short time, she invited me and my 8 year old son to thailand and showed us around, and now I would like to return the offer.

Unlike alot of the guys on here I cant spend all my time going back and forth as I have my son to look after, we spent 3 weeks there this summer and have already decided on 6 weeks next year, as well as I will pop over when i can but that will only be for a week at a time.....hence why I would like her to visit here. As this is the first visit we thought that just a month would be good.

Having read alot of the posts I have already got a few things ready, copy of bank statement (showing decent balance so i can support her), house papers, passport, things like that. What im struggling with is how to word the sponser letter, it has to come from me as both my parents are dead.

Thanks in advace for any advice

please no lectures!

First of all have a read of the VFS website, you probably have anyway, but it contains a lot of useful information, including the list of supporting documents required http://www.vfs-uk-th.com/index.aspx

When your girlfriend applies for a visa she needs to convince the ECO that the trip is affordable, I assume you are funding the trip, hence the letter of sponsorship. If you are sponsoring her then you need to prove that is both reasonable and affordable for you to do so. To be reasonable it would be normal to indicate why you are paying for the trip, you indicate that she is your girlfriend, then outline how you met and how your relationship developed, of course regular trips to Thailand help but if you can prove that you have a sustaining relationship and by that I mean regular contact then it could suffice. Your bank statements indicating affordabilty are fine. Even if your parents were alive they wouldn't need to act as sponsors.

There can be no template for a letter of sponsorship as no two cases are the same, but as raven0099 has indicated, there are examples elsewhere though these can be no more than indicitive, your sponsorship letter is really a personal thing and needs to reflect your individual circumstances, and could include your plans for the future.

As I have said may times the sponsorship of the trip itself is only half the battle, she needs to convince the ECO that she will return home at the end of the trip and to do this she needs to prove her ties to Thailand, is she employed or have a business or property, these are the sort of thing they are looking for, unfortunately a child wouldn't be regarded as a tie.

Do come back if you have any specific questions, someone will try and help you.

Good luck, and see no lectures.
