Liposuction

Featured Replies

The girlfriend is looking at getting some liposuction. So I thought I'd do a little research before rushing in. Seems like Vaser and Body Jet.

From looking on the Internet, it seems that by nearly all accounts, Body Jet is the clear winner. Can we done without general anesthesia. Less pain. Less bleeding. Less bruising. Quicker recovery. And more fat can be sucked out.

So why does it seem that no major hospitals offer this? Yahnee and Bumrungrad only offer traditional lipo. And the response from the former was simply that body jet is no better than traditional.

I have found a clinic offering it: http://www.sp-cosmeticsurgery.com

But I wonder if a procedure like this should be done in a hospital just in case of complications.

Any ideas?

I recommend against having liposuction done outside a hospital. Clinics and doctors offices in Thailand do not have the same degree of emergency preparedness as in the West ("mai pen rai" attitude is not always a good thing!!) , and while rare, potentially lethal complications can occur.

Individual plastic surgeons familiar with the technique seem to vary in their views; some feel it is superior when used on appropriate candidates, others disagree. For sure, need to be certain the patient is not allergic to lidocaine as that is in the solution used.

Whatever advantages the technique has, it will only be as good as the skill and experience of the surgeon, and the appropriate selection of patient (not all techniques equally good for all people).

Consultations with plastic surgeons are usually free of cost. I recommend your gf have a series of consultations with different doctors at different facilities, being sure to choose ones who are board certified in plastic surgery, and see what the general consensus seems to be.

Thanks for this. If you read about how the procedures are done, you have to come to the conclusion that body jet is the easiest on the body.

I agree with doing it in a hospital...

It's proving difficult to find out who the really good plastic surgeons on Thailand are. In the US, it wouldn't take more than 10 minutes and a few phone calls. Any ideas on this point?

Just got another email from a second Doc at Bumrungrad. Just one sentence.

There is no advantage to Body Jet or Vaser and that is why we don't offer these.

What a confusing situation. You can find hundreds of doctors online saying the exact opposite. So are they all saying it just because they have invested in the machines? Or are Bumrungrad doctors just not as cutting edge as one would think?

Is there any resource for finding the top plastic surgeons in Thailand? Kind of feel like I'm searching in the dark here...
