That seems like a lot of money to keep inside of the ATMs. Read another story where a guy stole 8m baht.

This also gives the Thai banks an excellent reason to jack up ATM fees for falang another 100 baht. :-)

Sorry; wrong reference before - maybe a better comment would be, they have started to use diggers!

I think the Irish need to take a few lessons from the Thais on robbing ATMs. The probaly had a gut of ale and thoughr it would be a good thing to do.

It's pretty dumb reporting the amount of money the robbers netted. It'll give would be robbers more incentive to zero in on ATMs. I don't know about other countries, but in Australia they never report how much money bank robbers etc get away with.

All Irish aside - the Thai's were successful and got the haul but sooner or later someone will hear of their exploits, cop a payday for ratting on them and nail them. How the hel_l they can pick up an ATM at all is a bit beyond my abilities to fathom - they are heavy and cumbersome and this is not something that can be done in a few minutes - so take they are professional and educated in the ways the ATM is attached to the floor and wall. Interesting... ph34r.gif

I don't think 5 men would have too much trouble picking up an ATM. Now that the whole country knows they can contain over 4 million baht more of them may go walkabout.

It's probably time for someone to develop a tamper device which sprays ink or acid over the bills and renders them unusable if the cash box is broken into - and make this well known to all ATM users and robbers. Another idea would be to put a GPS locator inside ATMs so they can be tracked...or how about explosives which can be remotely detonated.

The so called "forensic" team were inspecting the machine for fingerprints with no gloves on..... hmmmm http://www.pattayaon...0_08_53_2_6.jpg

They're probably the ones who nicked it in the first place.

Now now, please give them some credit, they would have at least buried it

They probably couldn't find any Burmese to dig the hole

Wouldn't work, the insurance to cover the lost money would be more than the exploded funds.
