i was wondering, does anyone know if (and where) there are any tennis clubs in Bangkok around Sukhumvit? all i've seen are the private courts of apartment complexes and unfortunately my complex doesn't have one. :o

good question. I struggled for 2 years to finds courts in this area that were not packed with a million Thais. I was never successful. Thank god I just moved to a place that has a single court but rent here is 60K. You might say that courts command a super premium around here

There is...well used to be...courts and club on Soi 38 Sukhumvit. You had to go in off Sukhumvit at Soi 38. Turn right at first road off Soi. I used to stay in a guesthouse near there which is now unfortunately closed. To repeat...turn off Sukhumvit on to Soi 38. Make first turn to right off Soi 38. The courts used to be open membership, but often had lot of people playing. I haven't been there in 3 to 4 years, so it could have changed. I'm not a tennis player so I can't say how the facilities were. They looked good from outside. Can't tell you the name of the courts. They were near an apartment area, but the court used to be open to all comers. Check it out.

I'd recommend my club (Racquet Club, soi Klang, just after Smitivej Hospital on soi 39). Got a couple of tennis courts and doesn't seem too busy, more courts being built. Has a nice pool for a dip after playing, and has free internet, shop, badminton courts and squash courts. Membership is around 10,000 baht per year and I think also available monthly and 6 monthly.

And if anyone's up for squash or badminton, message me and we'll get a group together.

Not far from Sukh. is AUA Language Center, at 179 Rajdamri Road near Lumpini Park. In the back of the property are two tennis courts, with lights. They are available by the hour, for 80 baht or a little more for lights when it's a bit cooler. To reserve a court, sign up in the AUA Clubhouse/cafeteria.

  • 4 weeks later...

The courts on Soi 38 are pretty good. It is called Santisook.

I have been playing there 2-3 times a week for some 15 months

now.

You can get there from Soi 38 as mentioned above, but also from

Soi 36, the back entrance. It is just about 100 yds past the MSI building on the left as you come up from Rama IV. Park in the street and go in thru the little green gate to a parking lot.

Only problem is they are booked solid for all reasonable hours. Tons of Japanese customers; from 10am to 3pm they courts are wide open as it is usually very hot then. I play early in the morning at 7 or 8am and usually can get a court. They have "knockers" who will hit with you for 100-200THB/hr depending on the experience of the knocker.

They have 5 outdoor lighted courts and 3 indoor poorly lighted courts.

Give me a PM if you'd like to try to meet for a hit sometime.
