Most residents of the area would agree some work is needed. Photo courtesy Robert S.

PHUKET: -- Residents of Rawai be warned: the Provincial Electricity Authority has announced a scheduled blackout in parts of the municipality from 9am to 4pm tomorrow to work on high-voltage power lines.

The affected area includes Saiyuan Road, from Wiset Rd to Nai Harn Beach, including Soi Khok Yang, Soi Hua Pru, Soi Khok Makham and Soi Naya.

Much of Saiyaun Road has been in a sorry state lately as Rawai Municipality continues its installation of a 1,200-meter drainage ditch in the area.

The drain project, with 7-million-baht in funding, is scheduled for completion in January next year.

For more information about the blackout contact: Provincial Electricity Authority Phuket, Operations and Maintenance Department. Tel: 076-211663 (Ext. 45311). Fax: 076-219966.

They worked on the power there a few weeks ago and a power pole snapped, sending all the cables down. The electric cables and pole was all replaced. It's all the cable TV and phone lines that are down in the photo. It is a complete mess around there. But I'm not sure it has anything to do with PEA. It seems like it has to do with TOT, CAT, 3BB, Rawai cable etc overloading the electric poles with their cables. Talk about third world infrastructure! While we are at it, let's put the drainage ditch up on the high side of the road. Why bother? No brains, no headache!

PS: I knew about this in the morning. But it's nice to see the Phuket Gazette is posting some news we can use!
