Hi guys,

I plan to move to Thailand in the next months and stay there. I love this country and also find it to be a great investment opportunity.

I have largely sufficient funds to rent (or even buy) real estate there, and sufficient funds also to live comfortably there.

The problem is that I cannot find a suitable Visa : I'm younger than 50 so exit the Retirement visa, and I don't feel like investing 320 000 USD in stocks right now for an Investment visa.

No job is waiting for me there, so no Job visa either.

There's just me and my loads of cash.

Will Thailand accept me?

Of course Thailand will accept you.

If you want to do it properly, get a 1 year multiple entry B visa in your home country. (If the UK - use Consulates in Birmingham or Manchester - easier) Tell them that you are coming to Thailand to set up a business and investing here.

Come to Thailand - set up a company. (You will need one if you want to buy land anyway). There is a list of 50-ish things that a foreign company can do in Thailand. Put the whole list in your company articles. Get a work permit and pay some taxes. If you are a director of the company, you will need a work permit anyway. (Signing papers is deemed work here!) Depending on the visa/work permit/if you hire staff - you will either have to leave every 90 days (one day visa trip) or you will have to go to immigration every 90 days if you have permission to stay.

If you have loads of cash you probably won't be single for long. There is a saying "You can make a small fortune in Thailand - you just have to bring in a big fortune. "

Live in Nong Khai so you are right at the border ... When in Vientiane let the 'agents' know that you have 'loads of cash' to arrange for long-term visas...

You don't really want to sit in some silly classroom just to get a visa ... with l.o.c. there will be plenty of 'sleeping dictionaries' available for you to learn the language.

Investment? ... no hurry. Come to Thailand - set up a company. Same as: Come to Thailand - bang your head against the wall.

Well OP, you have been given a couple of reasonable alternatives already. I will add the simple non-Imm O option. If you apply for this beyond neighbouring Thailand states, it should do you for up to 15 months. This visa will require you to exit the country every 90 days, but you sound affluent enough and young enough to go and enjoy neighbouring countries anyway. Countless TV members will advise you against embarking in any business or personal financial ventures until you really really understand how things work here. You should heed their advice well. And when you think you know better than them, you should heed their advice yet again. Countless guys of your age and (no offence) greater experience have come unstuck here. Thailand is truly a fantastic place, but please, heed the wisdom you will genuinely receive through this forum !

I wish you well..... Did I mention the heeding bla bla...

You do not really qualify for anything so your best bet may well be a Non Imm O Visa for visiting friends. This would give you up to 15 months.

You should be able to get this at the Thai Consulate in Hull UK.

Contact them and ask. Hull

The original post mentions USD -- not GBP ... the decisions as per what Visa you may qualify are made at Embassies and Consulates; not on websites.

There have been plenty of reports of successful applications from Europe which is where I believe he is.

As I said he only has to ring them and ask.

Good luck but remember more Farangs fail in business here, than succeed.

If I were you, I'd tell no-one, you have shed-loads of cash, but thats just me.

Take your time, think clearly and trust no-one!
