Quite a few people maintain their mental stability with the help of various drugs (medical drugs, not the other kind!). However, these drugs often have side effects like drowsiness or emotional numbness. It's not unusual for people to stop taking their psychiatric drugs when they go on vacation so that they can enjoy themselves more. I don't know if this is what happened to the fellow in this story, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

The French embassy in BKK made my life a misery when I applied for wedding, then a visa for my wife ; I'll never forgive the time and money lost; they kept on asking for difficult - to get papers . They were snarky. They treated me like undocumented bums are not treated in France .

A Thaï friend of mine developped a deadly condition just two days after arrival in France ; he had to have an operation at once , then he underwent nearly three months of hospital with several times in the operating room (special bandage) and plenty costly checks. 100% free .(good thing since he only had a Mickey-Mouse Thaï insurance for the trip - not his fault, too long to explain)

§§

My NHS wouldn't cover the plane, but I expect they'd cover whatever medical charges outside of the USA, for which I do need a private insurance.

Good news. Better news will be when the actual repatriation is completed.

Germans donate to repatriate comatose German from Thailand

Bamberg,Germany - Germans have donated generously in the past week to bring home from Thailand a man who has been in a coma for 10 months and has almost no relatives left to help him, the city of Bamberg said Friday. "We have been overwhelmed," said Franz Eibl, municipal spokesman in the southern German city, which has established a special bank account so that people can transfer their donations directly.

The man will need special transport to be flown home. Eibl said German doctors had offered to escort the man without charge. A city court has appointed a legal representative to decide on the sick man's treatment. "He's also going to need a lot of help after he gets home," said Eibl. A Thai hospital has provided 62,500 dollars worth of free treatment to the man, 39.

If someone wants to help and chip in money for the hospital, I'll provide the tools and software.

You can find the site in my profile and then click fundraiser.

I think the hospital deserves donation.

People can follow up the progress of donation in a progress bar as seen in the attached sample pic.

My question is why was a mentally ill man allowed to travel by himself or perhaps he did not? Without being able to question the man it would be difficult to ascertain if he was in fact abandoned.

I have experienced family members who have distanced themselves from a 'problem' in a private school and this mans reaction to not being allowed on the aircraft is somewhat predictable. Confusion transcends to fear and thus quite understandable that his fear of being stranded caused his reaction to climb and thus fall. The self inflicted injuries also could be a result of that but I am no psychiatrist.

However, that being said, the attitude of the German Embassy is appalling or perhaps they still maintain the stupidity of the Master Race and only the strong survive.

Agree, he is not fit now to slip back into the self proclaimed MASTER RACE, so the embassy dont give a sh1t, good luck to him , he is a fellow human after all....
