Would shoe shine boys make it in LOS?

In Saigon and Phnom Penh boys with shoe shine kits roam the tourist streets.

We don't see that in Thailand. In fact I don't see any poor boys begging. But there are adult poor people and sometimes amputees begging.

the old lady who used to sell orange juice in Thapae Square is now camped out in front of 7-Eleven and begging. An old lady might not be able to shine shoes, though.

Would shoe-shine kits be a good idea in Bkk or CM? Would they improve the chances of some people to get ahead?

I hope not. I won't easily forget the time an aggressive shoe shine boy insisted on shining my Hushpuppy shoes (which you can't shine) and when I politely refused he kicked me hard in the shin ...

Mexico City actually. I was retching in pain (no Rambo); the tactic was to mug me but it didn't work. I'm sure he forgot the incident a minute later as he looked like a glue addict.
