webfact 161228
MERCHANT OF DEATH Bout's wife asks PM to stop Viktor being extradited By Jeerapong Prasertpolkrang The Nation BANGKOK: -- The wife of Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout lodged a petition yesterday with Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, asking the government to stop her husband being extradited to the United States. Alla Bout passed a letter to Abhisit via an official to express her gratitude to the government, and the PM, for defending her husband’s right to a legitimate process and stalling his extradition to the US. Bout’s extradition case is in limbo after the court ordered last month that the Russian be handed over to US officials to face prosecution in the United States – but Moscow objected to the decision. Abhisit exercised the delay by asking Washington to drop a charge of money laundering it had filed earlier. Prolonging the process has allowed Bout time for legal manoeuvring. Bout’s wife said she hoped Abhisit and his government would understand Bout’s situation and not allow “propaganda tricks” and “pressure” from the US to influence the decision to extradite him. A former pilot, Bout, 44, could face life imprisonment if convicted in the US on the charge of supplying arms to the Colombian FARC rebels, who have been labelled terrorists by the American government. He has also been accused of supplying weapons to conflicts in different parts of the world, including Africa, South America and the Middle East. Bout has rejected the charges, saying he ran a legitimate air-cargo business. “We’re convinced the US accusations have the nature of a political persecution. During a decade of informational warfare, the United States has failed to present any evidence of the crimes allegedly committed by my husband either to the Russian justice system or to the Thai court,” Alla Bout was quoted saying recently by Russian news agency Itar-Tass. -- The Nation 2010-09-

Buchholz 2952
The wife of Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout lodged a petition yesterday with Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, asking the government to stop her husband being extradited to the United States. Does the letter submitted yesterday differ significantly from the one his lawyer submitted three weeks ago? That one was rejected. Through his Thai lawyer, Bout submitted a written request to Abhisit asking him to make a decision not to extradite him to the US
LomSak27 6750
If they do not extradite Bout, they need to give it a week, perhaps longer before yammering about extraditing Thaksin. Give people at least a week to forget, Kayup kayup.

oxo1947 4621
Bout is US bound - it is just a matter of time. You really wouldn't want to put your house on that bet S.T.T.----people were predicting a matter of weeks, in what will be nearly 3 years ago soon. Now you have the P.M of the country requesting that certain charges be dropped. But for a lesson in overkill it would have to be awarded to the USA for sending 50 (yes Fifty) Armed ---(how is that allowed) Men, to BKK over 4 weeks ago to escort him to America. Whether they still reside here waiting for your certainty to be enacted ---is not reported. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8950933.stm 28/08/2010 The small private jet has been sitting on the tarmac at a Bangkok airport all week now - with the meter running. It was hired by the US government and arrived on Monday to pick up valuable cargo, as did the 50 armed men sent to make sure the goods - Viktor Anatoliyevich Bout - made it safely from maximum security prison to American soil. hammered 170
What is happening with the extra charges? Too much time seems to have passed between the extradition decision and now for things to be smoothly progressing. There must be around a month gone of the 3 month window for extradition already.
