george Posted July 20, 2005 Share Posted July 20, 2005 Thailand plans to arrest 200 suspects under emergency law BANGKOK: -- Thai authorities, armed with tough new emergency powers to fight an Islamic insurgency, plan to detain some 200 suspected rebels without charge in the coming days for up to 30 days of questioning, a senior security official said Wednesday."As the emergency decree is now effective, we will call an estimated 200 people, including suspected ringleaders and members of Muslim militant groups, in for interrogation," the official told "We hope that the information we obtain could be used in suppressing the unrest." After their interrogation the suspects will be sent to "retraining camps" to help them reintegrate into society, the official added.The cabinet Tuesday imposed the highest state of emergency across three Muslim-majority provinces along the southern border with Malaysia.Under stiff emergency measures approved by decree Friday, authorities can detain suspects for up to 30 days without charge, search and arrest without warrant and tap phones among other actions. Police can also seize controlled substances such as explosives and other weapons, and arrest and prosecute anyone who refuses to cooperate. Makes you think the real purpose is to scare the guilty parties into suddenly making a run for the border, thus revealing themselves. On another subject, who's doing a visa run this weekend? stats Posted July 22, 2005 Share Posted July 22, 2005 (edited) Yes Kido you are Correct....In Singapore and Malaysia they have this called Internal Security Department....If you remember there was 1 incident in Singapore happens 3 years ago when a 10 members of JI members who happens to be a Singaporean and malaysian all of them tried to bomb the US Army Pick up point... It took the ISD Department only 1 day to stop the bomming plans...It was all over singapore...The best part is that The Goverment get hold of the Terorrist Video Recording tape of the plan....It was all over the News... When the Singapore goverment caught up this people they will bring them to an Internal Security JAil..And will be confine under the Internal Security Act..They are not allowed to meet any lawyers or Family members during the confiment....And it might took several years for them to get a trial.... Even Politition or big Goverment officiall,will also be sent to ISD if they do something wrong interms of Terror or Bribe Thailand should should follows this kind of system...Once they caught the suspect do not let them go till you got the right answer... And in Singapore if the goverment says A and it should be A no other party will say B..Coz the govermet is very strict....But in Thailand its a different story.... And it is going to be pretty difficult to find a laywer who can represent them, since the police has a history of making them "disappear"......
