I'm currently on my second year of retirement extension and it is due for renew 11. november this year. I have the 400K THB in bank since 6. august to meet the 3 month requirement. The reason for change the status of visa is because of the unstable exchange rates, i'm not old enough to get pension so money come from our off shore bank. I have been married with my wife (thai) for more than 10 years and we have 1 child together, and own our house since 2004 (we have blue and yellow tabien ban book) I'm aware of paperwork needed for marriage visa, but need further help as follows:

1. Do i have to apply at immgration office one month before my current retirement extension expire ?

2. when i get marriage visa, do i have leave to TH every 3 month the first year or do i automaticly get extension ?

3. are there other paperwork excluded these from police order which will help to get it easier at imm. office and to avoid further visit

1. During the last 30 days but best to do at least a week or two early to allow time for any missing paperwork.

2. It is not a visa - it is an extension of stay the same as you now have but the reason will be "Thai Wife" rather than "Retirement". It will be the same one year and require 90 day address reports as now.

3. Wife must be with you and have ID card and home register and should have for child. Photos together at home and in front of house number will likely be required. She and you will be interviewed to establish the marriage is real. She will have to sign copies of her documents as you will for yours. The extension will require another visit about 30 days later for final stamp.

1. Yes apply with 30 days remaining.

2. You will be applying for a one year "Extension of Stay" based on having a Thai wife, not getting another visa. So no, you will not have to leave after 3 months.

3. Documents required seem to vary from one office to the next, perhaps a good idea to check with your particular office to see what they require.

I have very similar situation and similar desire to change to extension based on marriage. My date in 24 June, so in May I went to Phuket Immigration asking for the change. The BIBs in the Saipan Hin office are a decent lot and generally helpful; been here 8 years now so know most of them. On this occasion the one I had was very adamant that I should just do another retirement extension, just about totally refusing to even do the marriage version. So, OK, I did retirement version but still want to do the married one at the next go around. Would it be better to do apply for new visa based on marriage from outside the country eg. in KL or some other amenable Thai consulate? If so which office is best considering my location in Phuket (easy flight down to KL, just a bit less so to Laos, Cambodia or VN).

You don't ask them what they want to do, you apply for the 'Extension' you want.

They don't like the marriage extension because it has

a lot of paperwork

a home visit

the extension is approved by officers in Bangkok (not the locals)

Agreed, but I have never heard of Phuket Immigration doing a Home Visit for such an extension.

In Khon Kaen they rang my local police station in Phu Wiang to verify we lived were said we did added that to the papers being sent off to head office - DONT FORGET 2 COPIES OF EVERYTHING ,and you have to do this every year on renewal,so says the boss lady @ KK.
