Does anybody here live Koh Samui and have a filipina nanny? Can someone tell me where they go for the visa renewal? How much does it cost you and how long is she gone for?

We had filipinas in Bangkok and they went to Laos or Cambodia from there, it was easy. Is it any different for them here? We may have to hire a Thai if we can't fathom this out and we're trying to avoid doing that.

Thanks in advance.:jap:

I'd bet the my bottom dollar that most of the Philipina nannies are working without work permits, and basically doing a visa run to renew a tourist visa, or at best a multiple non-immigrant visa of some sort - perhaps education visa or if they are lucky, an "O" Visa.

It is possible to get them legal and get them a work permit. Our erstwhile sponsor of the forum has posted on how this can be done. Which basically involves getting them a non-immgrant B visa, processing a work permit. They'll still have to go in and out of the country every 90 days unless you paid them a salary which qualifies for an annual extension of their stay and workpermit, however, they'd be legit.

Alternatively, it is possible to hire Burmese nannies (may of whom have excellent english) under the migrant labour visa (which is only available to Burmese, Lao and Cambodian nationals). Also do a search of this site.

Thanks for the info.......I'll have a mooch. Was really wanting to discover if they still go to Laos & Cambodia border from Koh Samui or whether they go elsewhere, ie Malaysia (Penang?). The trip from Bkk to Laos by van is a 9 hour trip, Cambodia 4.5 hour trip.........the same trip from Koh Samui would add another 8 hours on the journey time........is that what they do? How much does it cost from Samui? Anyone have 1st hand experience to share? Cheers.

Burmese would be an option - can they work outside of Bkk?

You could do the right thing and fly her to Bankok and then another flight to Udon Thani (less than 2 hours flying time in total), which is 45 minutes from the Friendship Bridge. There's thousands of Filipina getting double entry tourist visas there every month. There's a lot of info about that in other threads.

From several reports I have seen lately Vientiane specifically has turned off the tap to those from the Philippines and they are no longer able to obtain consecutive visas there.

Sorry? Do the right thing? I see......

Well thanks for your input but putting her on 2 flights might save travel time but suggestions on ways to save time was not the question. Putting her on 2 flights would also mean her travelling alone. It would also mean she would arrive at Laos or Cambodia border immigration alone, have to complete the visa application forms on her own, take the forms to the immigration authorities and deal with them.........on her own, answer their questions alone, queue, get sent from pillar to post....alone, queue again, then she'll also have to find her own accommodation, get ripped off for said accommodation, find her own food, get ripped off for said food.........all on her own! I think what is deemed to be "the right thing" by one person might differ to another. I believe being concerned about her safe return & worrying about her personal safety is "the right thing to do".....always..............but maybe I'm just old fashioned.

And to be frank, when the tour agencies operate such a thorough, secure and reliable service I see no reason not to use them. The trips may be tedious and boring and long but not having to deal with immigration at all is a huge plus for them - and for me. And the alternative isn't really an alternative for them - especially when you need to be sure (or as sure as you can be) that your nanny will get that visa and come back safely.

There is never a guarantee of this - coming back with a visa, that is.

Is this a recent development (over the last 6 months)?
