Hi guys,

although I've read the info released on the page http://www.thaivisa.com/392.0.html , which are very drastic, I'm here to ask if anyone know if is possible to a "Persona non grata" coming back to the kingdom after 37 years of absence and just for tourism purposes, he is now 58 and he was sent off at the age of 21 for possession of a small quantity of drugs.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

In theory I'd say no way but it depends on how well the Thai immigration have kept their records, for sure it wasn't computerised 37 years ago.

My best advice is for him to apply for a tourist visa and come clean, thell them of his transgression, and how he's cleaned his life up and wants to return to sample the real culture od Thailand. I am assuming he now has a new passport without the PNG stamp.

I'd say he's got a good chance they'd issue a visa and let him in but there's no guarantee, you never know that immigration officer of 37 years ago might be still working at the same job, not the same desk though.

His passport is clean, but I think he is afraid to tell them about his past... I guess it hasn't been a nice experience... but I think you are right, I don't think they have kept records of something happened so many years ago.

Thanks for your advice, I'll pass it to him :)

Do not worry. Get a tourist visa in your home country or just come and get thirty days. No problem about your past. No one asks.

You are super-optimist, I'll suggest him to choose between this 2 options, thanks for your help :)

Well remember they did catch that bird who was blacklisted - she said she was just returning to visit mates and have a bit of a holiday. I'd think chances are slim, but you never know. I'd apply for a tourist visa and see if it's approved.

I think she tried to come back within a year or two and all on computer now.

A visa is often not checked against the list of people who are blacklisted. A visa doesn't guarantees entry into Thailand anyway,it is only a permission to travel to Thailand. Not a permission to enter Thailand. That permission is given by the immigration officer, who can deny entry if you are blacklisted or deemed a risk to society or have a contagious disease.

There's a pdf copy of the Thai visa application form here: http://thailand.visahq.com/

There's no questions asked about deportation, PNG status, criminal activity, so no need to fib.,

Mac

It's actually what I thought, they are not asking... it's up to you tell them or not.

tell your friend to go for it but leave the wacky weed at home.

Thanks everybody for your useful suggestions
