It's the mention of "influential people" in a story that always has me reaching for the sick bag.

Isn't there anybody in this country wielding a bigger stick so to speak with the morals and clout to bury these cancerous cockroaches?

Exactly the point.

How influential are these people, that thais can not find someone so much more powerful to put the hammer down on them for this degenerate degradation of their own society?

What adults do is their business, if it isn't violent or physically oppressive to those

who do not wish it. But when they involve children, that is another level of depravity

that no society should ever tolerate.

I like your guys' opinion...but, if you surf the Internet Kid Porn, then you will shock knocking your socks off...( thousand sites )

Something needs to be done...selling women already hurts any woman ...when it comes to children I can not handle.

I have no idea what kind of people who like to molest children?? Plus the Gangs who pimp and profit a living from children.....Sad

I have been told they bought the children from Hill tribes and Burmese border. These Pimp Gang will not do this to the Thais.

The Hilltribe parents think their children are working in the retail stores, serving food at restaurants or working as maids for the Thais.

Is there any Help on the way for this type of behavior??? My take and opinion.

Interesting that the article titled about Child Porn spends most of its time talking about pirated video, general porn and related items. In fact they did a count saying they found 17 stalls selling pirated, 9 selling porn and another 18 selling sex aids type material with 8 offering sex toys.

One has to wonder why they did not tally the number of of vendors selling child porn since this is supposedly the focus of the article.

In fact, if you look closely at the picture they used for the article, the vast majority of what the vendor on display is selling is regular movies and only the bottom row appears to possibly be porn and of those there is only one cover where it appears a women's breast MAY be visible. All the others appear to be single individuals alone in varies poses covering their genitals (similar to a Playboy cover). If there was child porn there and this was what the story was about ... why not take pictures of that and black out the indecent parts???

There is no doubt child porn being sold by some vendors behind the scenes and action should be taken but this story is a load of poop trying to get people in an uproar either for publicity or to eliminate standard porn titles from being displayed openly on the street. It could also be a personal beef with that district's police since they claim porn is not sold openly in Silom and we all know that is a lie. Another underhand comment was how this would never have been permitted years ago ... could it be the paper or reporter has an issue with those currently running the district? Nothing lower, even in Thailand, than being accused of being involved in child sex abuse.

Also interesting is how they did not ask one police office to come look at the vendors selling child porn. Now that would have been a story either a bust or a cop refusing to do anything about child porn.

Then again they can now also claim their story caused the elimination of all the child porn being sold openly on Sukimivit because surely you will not see this being done now ... same as I never saw it done before.

Again I ask jcbangkok about his claim earlier "And at the current moment I am out of the country but can assure you I can get it stopped within a week." is a bit far fetched and even comical? Pray tell how? Edited by VictorMeldrewBKK

It is openly available in HadYai as well. They even shove it in my face when I am walking with my wife I angrily say Mai chob, Mai chob but they just smile. I'm talking young girls 10 and under. I would take pics of the stalls and vendors and show them on utube or call some watch group if I knew a number or if I knew it would make a difference.

Like some of the others, I don't believe it either. I think there is some unconfirmed, shoddy journalism here. If it were true that child pornography was being openly sold on the streets of Bangkok don't you think that every major news organization would be there and this would have been reported days or weeks ago? CNN has a correspondent who is based in Bangkok who is a bulldog about these kinds of things. He would have been all over this story exposing it to the world. Pedophiles are known to be very secretive people. Do you really think they would openly buy this filth so that they could be trailed by the police? Come on...

I don't believe the above post about Hat Yai either. I've spent a good amount of time there and have family there. They openly sell adult pornographic DVD's - both Asian and Western, as well as vibrators and dildos; but NOT child pornography.

Also, if it were true, law enforcement agencies from all over the world would be there confiscating the evidence to use against the criminals in their respective countries.

What is this, Rascism Week?! What with the thread on Black people being refused entry to some hotels/bars.

Some Thais will and most certainly do, pimp out their children. Your 'take' and 'opinion' are both misinformed and downright ignorant.

Whilst chatting with a plumber I had do some work on a house in the UK, and having mentioned I was spending some time in Thailand, told me he'd taken his fiancee there and would never go back. They'd had the usual parking ticket on the Patong beach road and when they both went to the Patong police station to pay up, he'd been asked by one of the police whether he 'liked very young girls' when he declined, he was asked 'boys then?'.

This all within earshot of his fiancee who tearfully asked that their holiday be cut short and to go back home.

Seriously. Some of you naysayers should get out more. Or maybe not ...

There is another, more sinister, side to this. These vendors are trying to make a living selling what people want to buy. If people weren't buying the vendors wouldn't be selling. The people making these movies would still be making them even if people weren't selling and buying them.

It is the nastier side of the human condition.

I have just noticed that there are 172 people viewing this topic and wonder why.

You wonder why 172 people are viewing this. Ask yourself that question, there were 171 plus YOU! Why are you viewing this?

You really don’t help with bonehead statements like that. 300 years ago I’m sure you would have been at the cutting edge in the art of witch hunting.

Please please please don't take this post as me in any way supporting child porn, making, selling or buying... a pox on all of them... I have 3 kids under 6...

but...

I don't really understand why there are 7 pages of outrage at movies of child abuse being freely available, when, child prostitution is freely availble throughout The Kingdom...

I was in Udon Thani last year, and most everyone knew where to go for trafficed, under age, Lao girls... A British guy I was with took me down the Soi, the old lady who ran the (terrific) legit Thai Massage place bought it up in conversation (explaining about a German who demanded 'extras' and she said "you go to SoiX for Underage Lao girl")... all of the girls in the beer bars seemed to know...

Surely the actual act going on, unchecked, should be the primary concern... I guess the difference is that, in Udon, the customer list is less likely to be white farrang, and therefore less headline grabbing...

I wish that Interpol was a real police force, and could act across borders... I wish that NGOs were more effective, or able to be more effective, in this area... I would gladly make a significant donation if I thought there was something they could do on a decent scale to effect change...

Boater, I commend and applaud your attempt at doing something about this. You are a credit to Pattaya.

However, and I understand why if you don't, can you please try again and present a copy of the complaint to the Public Prosecutor's office? The Public Prosecutor won't be aggressive to you at all (as the cops might be) and you may well find yourself getting a VIP public servant visa or something.

Is there a limit to what Thais would do for money? Thais sell their children for money, Thais prostitute themselves for money, Thais take child porn movies to sell for money, etc. etc.

Why are you picking on the Thais, many other countries in the world have far worse reputations, perhaps you don't have any experience of other places or have led a fairly closeted life?:D

Having read most of the replies to this topic I’ve come to the conclusion I must be blind, dumb or both.

I travel about all over Thailand, I buy CD’s and DVD’s from street vendors, Pattaya, Chiangmai and Bangkok, and I’ve not seen this stuff on display or even been offered it, and I’m thankful for that. Enough has been said on this vile trade, I don’t think I need to add more.

I am surprised that a lot of Farangs are making a big deal about this. I thought you people liked this kind of thing. It should not be a surprise to know that plenty of male Farangs frequent this kind of vendor. Plus, it would not amaze me whatsoever if, after reading this news, some Thai Visa users go out to search for this disgusting stuff on the streets of Bangkok.

I spoke with a friend of my family who is the head policeman of northern isarn - 11 provinces- he said if I told Jim where it was being sold he would personally put the seller in prison. If you want to stop these practices get off your asses and go speak to a senior policeman. I don't know of any being sold in isarn but if anyone does let me know. There are a lot if high ranking decent 'mafia' with family values. Don't be scared by the scum on the street

Nonsense! We shop and we eat our mussles and somtam there for years, sometimes buy the latest CD or a new trunk. We never saw such crap! Sex-VCD yes, like in other major cities round the world.

Does the post intend to discredit the authority or even their own people, na?

- maybe it is too simple - this headline sells!

Or is it a marketing strategy to attract that kind of tourist?

Really....

A comment on BK post on the article:

Another example of completely irresponsible journalism, preying on people prejudice on Thailand.

While child porn may be available to those who knows where to ask, it could never be on open display. Not even straight porn is.

The story contains no names and no verifiable evidence. It is written by a Maxmilian Wechsler, a life-time suplier of fantastic stories, who other employers have found "mentally unstable" and "unreliable". (Try googling for "Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Maxmilian Wechsler")

Shameful that Bangkok Post publishes this story.

There MANY MANY Thai police and officials who have a HATRED for Child porn that can be contacted. In addition there are MANY MANY groups in Thailand and Internationally whose sole mission is to protect children and stop exploitation. There are also MANY MANY local and international media who would love to do a story like this because if nothing else it generates huge headlines. Any of these people can be contacted and would immediately be on the case.

Forget about all the other options such as those who would bash somebody's head in at the first sight of them selling this stuff on the street openly.

Thailand may be corrupt but you are ignorant to believe if this was happening that it could not be stopped quickly. The Mafia and people involved selling child porn are not looking for publicity. Even the lowest criminals in Thai prisons will take offense to somebody being there due to child related crimes.

Come to think of it, I cannot think of many Embassys that would at minimum put out Travel Alerts if kiddy porn was being sold so openly in tourist areas. I can almost assure you that the US State Department would provide severe consequences to Thailand if it was doing NOTHING to stop this.
