I found this abbreviation in a transcript from a Q&A with PM Abhisit. I've checked several places and can't find it anywhere.

I did a google search for "thai abbreviations" and found this site: http://www.abbreviations.com/acronyms/THAI/1 which lists 490 acronyms and the full version, but unfortunately no translations. กอส wasn't listed though.

What is the significance of period placement in abbreviations?

Is there any?

examples:

ก

ก.

ก.ก.

กก.

กกต.

กง.กห.

I was thinking that a period might mark the end of word, but it’s hard to figure;

กกต. is for election commission which is probably officially one word.

คณะกรรมการการเลือกตั้ง

ก.ก. can be for กรรมการ which is one word but the abbreviation has 2 periods.
