Hello,

I'm a Canadian currently living in BKK on a extension based on marriage. My extension expires on Nov. 22/2010 so i'll start the renewal process a month before. My Canadian passport expires Feb. 23/2011. I'm wondering if i'm going to have any problems getting the extension because of the passports expiry date. I hope i can get some insight in this issue. BTW... Do any Canadians know how long before the expiry date of passport that we can apply for a new one? It'd be nice to get a new one now so i can get the new extension in it.

Thanks

Get a new passport now. There is no restriction on getting early AFAIK and at this point your passport is useless for travel just about anywhere but home. Never let get below six months; and if traveling I would make that a year.

You can apply for the extension later if required to obtain new passport.

You do not have to apply on the 22nd of Oct - you can still apply on the 21 of Nov most places and be fine.

But yes you should keep old passport until replaced - but Immigration can not put a one year extension in yours and it is so short now they might refuse to do anything (although normally they will put up to expiration date for the extension of stay).
