The first couple of months I got great speeds on my 16Mbit True connection on local, European and US sites (1.8MBs with either Internet Download Manager of without). Then the US speed dropped considerable after 6pm.

But now even in the morning and afternoon, speeds dropped to under 100Kbs (even with IDM 16 connections). Also in the beginning, local speedtest was about 14-15Mbs. Now I am lucky to get 5Mbs ...

Anyone on 16Mbit True has the same experience?

Is the ping spike at the international gateway?

Ping spike?

Click the 'Start' button and type cmd into the box and press 'enter'

A DOS black box will pop up. Run a tracert with this DOS command

C:\>tracert www.yahoo.com

Your comp will ping all intermediate routers towards the US and you should notice a jump in ping times from tens to hundreds. This normally occurs at the international gateway. If the spike is within the first few hops, then there is abnormality in your ISP's network.

I have this package since April 2010.

Don't see any problems.

I used my German VPN and the speeds were much higher .... they fluctuated between 150KBs and 1.4MBs .... much faster than through True direct (never higher than 200KBs)

It seems to me a problem with True connections to the US as oppsoed to German sites like rapidshare and my VPN.

Traceroute is harder to discern than a tracert.

Reputation aside, it seems you're screwed up individually.

I am on TRUE in Bangkok, pay less than 600 baht a month, and normally squeeze over 700 KB/s.

Could you post screens of late afternoon downloads both for American and European servers?

It is school vacation time (since early in the month) so the after 6 crowd is using computers most of the day now. Expect you will see improvement after end of month when they are back in school and only business users on during the daytime hours.

No real slow down on TRUE ultrahigh speed for me to US around 45mb - 47mb at the moment saturday afternoon.

Don't believe these tests results they are all over the place.

32 ping to the US is impossible.

also Paris 31 ping

42 ping to Bangkok Thai Visa Server!

All over the place

The low pings are due to True's cache server in BKK.

if you open a VPN it bypasses it and you get a correct Ping value.

What is strange tho not all customers go through that cache server about 70% do but the other 30% of True users do not seem to, still cannot figure that out.

I thought it might be related to their DNS servers so tried google DNS and same result.

I put a call into True Support and they will escalate it to see if its possible to bypass that caching server. I don't hold my breath but apparently level 2 support will call on Monday morning.

Initially my 50mb connection here did not go through their server and was getting correct pings of 200ms+ but over last 2 weeks it has been rerouted through that server.

Which kinda ties in with the date they introduced the 25mb and 40mb VDSL product as well as the 30mb and 50mb. Not sure of the relationship on that.

I think it might be to do with the amount of users on the DSLAM? As a friend has his routing direct to USA (250ms) 2 soi's away from here.

Could it be as the DSLAM fills up they route those users through the cache to keep the bandwidth as advertised????

Strange how your pings are all around 240 ms.

I wonder if True are being a tad cleverer than 3BB:

Well seeded torrents of about 1 GB, I download in ~20 min. The upload speeds are at around 60 KB/s.

I have been experiencing the exactly same problem in the last 5-7 days. I call True, they say it's "my computer/my modem/my router". Right now, here on True 16mbit, connection went completely down for about 20min, but not the ADSL, just the international link. I was running PingPlotter and from the 7th hop onwards, just "ERR", while the first ones, still before it jumps to Singapore, everything perfect.

Something is VERY, VERY wrong with True for the past week... a friend of mine, using true 6mbps (the 599 Baht one) in Phra Khanong area reported exactly the same problem over the weekend.

I contacted True Support and they told me that there is a lack of international bandwidth and they will report to the technical department. Such bull for 2,400 baht a month.

@condo_bk These speedtest things are as reliable as the average bar girl.

995123814.png

This is the reality though:

Typical file with IDM 63.56KBs (16! connections)

Firefox single connection: 5.43 KBs

When I asked you to post screens, of course I didn't refer to the comical speedtest screens but to download screens (US server) or torrent (US).

Even a local speedtest gives 5-6Mbs before bending over to 13Mbs at the very end.

The problem is deeper than that, since 2 weeks ago, the international traffic was fast as it could be, I was able to get 8-10mbps steady from the US/Canada, and 6-8mbps from Europe. It's some crap someone did in the routing there, in the middle of last week, for sure.

This is what I got for the Thaivisa server just now:

And this is what I am supposedly getting to Canada:

This, to Nevada/US:

996010536.png

But if I try to download anything from outside TH, I get 5... 6... 7kb/s... like a Dial Up modem. :\

That's good. About 800 kBps.

My "8/1" mbps link gives me about 700 kBps on a really good day.

Seem to be getting better results this week with a MTU 1492 instead of 1500 on True.

Good point. I reduced my MTU to 1400 when I couldn't send encrypted messages to my bank. Somewhere between me and them was a bit of equipment that couldn't handle 1452 byte sized packages.
