Israeli man restrained on Qantas flight after death threats

HONG KONG (BNO NEWS) -- A "disruptive" Israeli passenger on a Qantas flight to Hong Kong had to be restrained by the airline's staff after making threats to kill himself as well as people on board, local media reported Thursday.

The 23-year-old man who was identified only as Ariel began complaining about the food and other services about four hours into the flight. After ignoring several instructions from the crew, Ariel began moving around the plane and threatened that he would open the aircraft's door because it was "God's will" for passengers and himself to die.

The crew of the aircraft reportedly held the man down, handcuffed him, and sectioned him off from the rest of the passengers under staff guard until the flight's arrival in Hong Kong. He was then taken into custody by Hong Kong police.

Authorities, however, have said they would not file any charges against Ariel as no passengers were hurt during his antics and no physical damage was done to the plane.

After being restrained by Qantas' crew, Ariel was reportedly not violent. He is since under medical observation at a Hong Kong hospital for further evaluation.

Ofcourse he could be charged with something, as it is clear that he threatened the lives of all passenger and crew. Even if he would be unable to follow-through [since he is stupid and don't know he would not be able to open the door during high altitude flight] the treat was made and possibly an intent to carry it out.

He'll be blacklisted by Qantas. No big deal as I've blacklisted Qantas

Sorry if I'm not taking this news story seriously enough. On the surface, it sounds like he was not armed at all, was not a terrorist, but was indeed suffering from severe mental illness. Of course, the courts of jurisdiction handling this will decide what legal action to take, but most civilized countries have special programs for the truly insane.
