Baht Bank Account Outside Thailand

Featured Replies

Is there such a thing as a Thai baht bank account outside of Thailand?

If so, where?

As a Brit, I'd be interested in something UK-based. The London branch of Bangkok Bank?

Thanks for your help.

You can hold accounts in various currencies, whether THB is one of them you need to talk to the indivual banks, if the overseas branches of Thai banks dont do it, then nobody will...

The Canadia bank in Cambodia, they cater for the Dollar, Baht or Cambodian Riel , they have a very good website and are a very modern bank.

all multinational banks in Singapore offer that option. interest rates are a wee bit better (nothing to rave about) than those onshore Thailand.

HSBC Hong Kong has a multi currency account that includes THB, presumably HSBC UK will also open a THB account, on request but will charge. Multi-currency accounts in the UK don't seem to be that common, HSBC recently asked me if I wanted a UK based USD account in addition to my existing account but I note it was £5 a month for the privilege.

can any kind soul explain what a "multi-currency account" is? i hold cash and assets yielding interest/dividends in a dozen or so different currencies. therefore it goes without saying that for each of these currencies an account exists (a few restrictions apply because some of the currencies cannot be held in cash outside their relevant countries). but i have never heard the expression multi-currency account in 3½ decades except on Thaivisa.

Why CANADIA BANK?

The bank’s name derives from the initial founders,

as they are mainly Cambodian origin returnees from Canada.

From my experience it's an HSBC Hong Kong product that allows deposits, with drawls, and currency storage in a range of different currencies, all under the same umbrella account and all interest bearing, sometimes! Thirteen different currencies currently, useful if you work globally and are likely to be paid in different currencies at different times by various clients - also useful for fast switching between currencies in the umbrella account. Further usefulness includes a single statement that covers all currencies and their associated movement.

that "HSBC product" is the done thing at all renowned banks since i had the first fistful of Dollars/Deutsche Mark to invest... which was 35 years ago.

I still can't find anything on the internet on baht accounts outside of Thailand.

And search on 'HSBC Hong Kong multi-currency account' and I just get this which doesn't include baht:

If anyone can post some links to specific bank webpages that talk about baht accounts outside of Thailand that would be great.

Thanks.

Incidentally I spoke to Bangkok Bank London today.

I was told they don't do personal accounts.

Try these:

From the link you posted (which looks like HSBC Int in Guernsey!):

Also look at:

http://www.hsbc.com.hk/hk/home/ (which looks like Hong Kong)

I know I know, all these islands look the same. :)

why would banks mention in their webpages accounts for a currency such as Thai Baht wich is more or less insignificant offshore? <_< if you want to hold THB then open an account in Singapore. most SG banks provide that possibility.

I have had multi currency account at HSBC Hong Kong for several years. One of the many available currencies is THB.

Actually there is a separate sub account for each currency you hold but when you look at your main account summary on line you will see all of them.

HSBC Advance account in HK does allow you to manage/save 10 of the majors currencies (including THB) under a single account.

Cheers
