Bangkok's Lumpini Police In Hot Water In Wake Of Porn Raid

Come on people. Why so negative and cynical? (With reason I am sure)

I see this as a positive. The fact that they are attempting to take child pornography off the street, whilst slapping the wrists of the BIB's that leave it there is a good thing in my book.

Not the complete solution that I would hope for, but at least it is more than they were doing last week.

Still only the middle man though. Rubl is right. Who makes it and who buys it. They are the real scum

I agree. Taking it off the street is cutting the distribution arm of this pernicious industry. The next is to go after the head, despite how high up that goes. Kudos to the Thai police for showing in the face of constant derision that morals trumps money.

I have to keep asking were is the child porn. I have been visiting Suk for years yes have seen regular porn but never child porn and many other have post a similar response. Was this just a over the top news story cooking up trouble or was it valid.

I have to say I have never seen it openly displayed either, in years of buying pirated stuff from these guys on Suk, but have always heard it is available if one asks. Lots of Adult porn but never seen the kid stuff. I thought maybe it was a new thing since I have not been there in months but then checked and see the BKK Post has run with this story in the past. However, on another thread, there were a number of people saying it is not only openly displayed but shoved in the faces of passing tourists, by the vendors, including when they are with their family.

Bottom line, the more they drive this underground the better ... the whole supply and demand thing. Less availability means higher prices, less sales and less need for new material and the abuse of more children.

I have been down Suk 100s of times and been dragged into alleys to look at porn DVD's but never, ever have I been shown CP - this must be sensationalism to sell papers? of course trhere must be some out there, despicable though it is, I can imagine its a swidespread as is suggested here? unless there is a portion of Suk I am unaware of?

In the past, it has been OPENLY DISPLAYED on the front tables of DVD vendors in Pattaya very close to the main Pattaya police station, and on multiple tables on Pattaya Beach Road. Not all the time but some times. Confirmed by me and other members here on this board. So to people who have actually witnessed this, we are more inclined to think there is A LOT more to this than selling papers!

I'm not into buying CP, but I sure do get a giggle out of the Arab men fondling the silicone penises at the same sidewalk CD store.

The only way to get a reaction on anything in Thailand is for it to be brought to the attention of the International Press and shame them. Perhaps some undercover filming showing the real problem instead of the pretend Police raids declaring that no porn was found.

I can testify to this too - there are at least three stalls on Beach Road near the entrance to Walking Street where many CP movies are face-up on the display tables for all tourist families to witness (and to talk about when they get home to their respective countries). The images feature children under ten years of age. It is simply impossible that the Pattaya Police are not aware of this permanent open sale. It's disgusting..!

"Thailand is a Buddhist country. The police seems to forget."

"Thailand is supposed to be a Buddhist country - most Thais forget"

"Chatorn never makes any sense with her comments anyway"

How can a police report with your signature be anonymous? Or criminal charges naming a police officer who refuses to accept a report? Or is it OK to file charges using a false name in Thailand? and a false address....

Guys - T.I.T. - not any more Buddhist than Southern California - Chantorn is Thai, and you expect 'western logic' - LOL

You did read the title of this thread? BKK? I was referring to Sukmumvite BKK

Did they actually find any evidence, that it was real CP, with actors under 18 years old, or if it was just the usual teen-porn with eighteen and nineteen year old sluts?

Good question!

So many rush to the conclusion that it is CP just because the actors look young. Same goes with prostitution. Older guy walks with an 18yo and she looks 16, people conclude that it is child prostitution.

If you had actually witnessed this openly display of CP as a number of posters have recently on Thaivisa, you would have no question whatsoever that at least the covers were actual children, not even close to adults, no question about it, closer to age 10 than age 18. Can we just drop with the doubters?

I still like the post on another thread that opened my eyes to the plausibility that Thailand is more Animist than Buddhist. The poster posed the suggestion that the claims of Buddhism are only a thin veneer; and used consciously or subconsciously as an excuse to do the things they do. It is surprising that I did not know this before, and that Chantorn never mentioned it.

Anyways, anything placed on the net is going to reach out and get attention. We can only hope (tongue in cheek) that this gets the attention it deserves, and builds on a momentum that will reach its tolerance limit in the near future. Anything helps, for sure, but I am not so sure police intervention is the answer here. This form of intervention seems to hurt things more than anything else, as it gets downplayed and turned into a three-ringed circus. It seems to cause more damage than naught..

A predictable raid at the Beach Road Pier? or,

Highlights from future crackdowns!

BP today:

"I can guarantee" says a senior policeman - that pornography will never appear in public display along Sukhumvit Road again.

:whistling:

"It will, however, continue to remain on sale." he did not add. " The marketing of said material will now consist of shouting "You, You, have Lolita, Lolita", loudly at any single male walking past. Any viewing and selling will take place in a side alley out of view. If the purchaser is not Thai, then once the sale has been made, we will immediately arrest them and extort money, before confiscating the material and returning it the vendor to sell again."

Take a stroll any night of the week down either side of sukhumvit and be prepared to be offered PORN ( not sure what types ) as I never asked, FAKE Viagra, Chinese dildos ( also illegal in Thailand ) and numerous other illegal/banned products, Lumpini cops are EXACTLY the same as Silom, Asoke etc etc etc, they are ALL on the take either from being forced/coerced or they are just criminals like the street sellers and those that supply them, we all know that day by day the situation gets worse and worse here in LOS, i f you have lived here long enough you know what I mean, there is very little we as "second class people" farangs can do and for sure reporting a street vendor will do nothing more than putting ones own life in jeopardy, sad but for me true...

Thailand is a Buddhist country. The police seems to forget.

That's the "claim" i.e. Thailand is a Buddhist country. I really don't see hoards of Thai people following the teachings however. I wish they did. Frankly it might be just more "lip service" like "crack downs" etc. The teachings of the Buddha and Chuang Tzu could really alter the way Thailand behaves if only it was in peoples' heart and not their head.

Buddism is the teaching of "embracing".

But cynicism aside, I didnt realise how corrupt Thai/Thailand is.

I dont understand why countries like Japan, US, Europeans want to invest here. Is it because of "it"?

100% correct.....People can do here what they would never try to do at home, its only a matter of money pure and simple

I suspect the possibility of an extortion scam of the guilty customers with police involvement (a group of people that would never complain). If the police turned a blind eye, its fair to assume there was a money element, so the question is how deep, how corrupt ...

I guess I have to agree with you
