Troops deployed throughout capital city of Thailand

Thailand's Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha has ordered deployment of troops in 1,868 communities in all 50 districts of Bangkok and adjacent provinces for civic action, intelligence collection and prevention of bombings and sabotage, an army source said.

The army chief's instruction follows the explosion at an apartment in central Nonthaburi province on Oct. 5, in which four people were killed, including the suspected bomb maker, and nine others wounded, a local media reported.

Intelligence agencies were convinced there could be more sabotage attempts and bombings of important installations, the source said.

The troops are drawn from three main units - the 1st Infantry Division, 2nd Cavalry Division, and the army's Air Defense Command. The operation covers all 50 districts of Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan where the emergency decree is still in force.

The army chief's order is for the troops to develop relations with the local people so that they can act as the eyes and ears of the authorities.

Each main force has been ordered to set up a rapid deployment company capable of reaching any location where a violent incident occurs in 15 minutes.

The Taxi driver wasn't just an idiot or only 'mentally ill' - fact is that he did also out of protest like the two other cases i mentioned (they got famous, but their fame doesn't indicate that they have been anyhow more sane)

He said the red-shirt leaders could not control these angry reds as they decided to take revenge on their own.

The taxi driver suicided, which is not really the same as 'suicide bomber'. 'suicide bombing' doesn't seem part of Thai mentality, although with reincarnation suicide seems more easy than for some Christians.

As the red-shirt leaders can no longer control their people and some angry reds are taking revenge on their own, I guess the government is justified in cracking down on them.

When PTP and UDD hand over material to the UN chief Ban Ki-Moon, a few red statements like the OP here should also be passed along.

He was just mentally ill by most reports and family. That he incorporated the coup into his delusional system is just symptomatic of his illness. He could have just as easily fixated on anything else and done something equally bizarre (such as the taxi ramming into a tank).

Fortunately for others, his illness took him down a different path and he decided that he would destroy the Army single-handedly with his taxi. Unfortunately for him, when that failed, he chose to hang himself while alone in the dark.

Well, one should never underestimate how willingly The China Daily will point out the failings in an Asian democracy.

However, welcome to a possible modern nightmare in Thailand. Army all over the place, Red Shirts threatening bombings and now mentioning suicide bombings.

If this is all for real then I would expect the Red shirt leaders a do the right thing and along with the tourist tapshin sinawarter to volunteer to show the rest how it works. On the other hand .for the sake of Thailand, how about giving peace a chance? With elections coming up why not try influence things rather than blow them up? I don't even want to read the story .. the headline was enough.

Maybe avoiding the truth here but I would much prefer to believe this story is BS and a continued campaign to show the Reds as terrorists ... not like there is anything I could do or prepare for in the event this story was true.

With the training in Cambodia story, this headline and others ... it seems somebody is taking news stories related to the Taliban and just changing names and location. If true, I hope it works to curb further violence by the Reds but I worry it could also backfire.

Amazing. Only the warped minds of the Thai red shirts could attempt to use "democracy" for justification of suicide bombings.

If they do go ahead with this suicide bomb plan globally there will be very few people left under the heavily-financed myth that the red shirts are a force for democracy in Thailand. Instead they'll finally be viewed for exactly what they are; the cult of Thaksin, which will go to any lengths - including such vile terrorist acts - to see him restored to power.

Unfortunately I have to use the words "very few" and not "nobody" because even here we see a few posters borderline attempting to justify such threats. Frankly it's about time those people pulled their proverbial head out.
