What To Do With My Damaged Asus Netbook.

Featured Replies

I returned from work to find my ASUS 901 no longer works. It looks like the screen is damaged. Apparently my 18month old daughter hit it with something. I'm just wondering what I can do with it. I realise I can buy a replacement machine for 10,000 baht but it seems a terrible waste just to bin it,

Any ideas?

Not sure where you are but it is quite an easy matter to buy a replacement screen for your laptop or even purchase a seperate monitor and attach it to your laptop - maybe even a seperate keyboard and your old laptop just acts as a computer.

Cheers

Just checked your profile and see you are in Ban Chang so where I am in Pattaya would be easy for you

Cheers

a friend recently damaged his old MacBook's screen and I checked with the distributor; it costs between 15 to 20K lol

In Pattaya there is TuCom and on the computer floor (3 I think) at one end there is a very good retailer called JIB Computers if you head there and then as you stand at the counter look to your right hand side behind you there is a very small place that specialises in Laptops and repairing them I had a laptop repaired there about two years ago broken screen and key board it has been working great ever since and did not cost a fortune to repair either. This guy that works there also has some second user parts if you want to go down that road also

Well if you can't get the screen repaired to a decent cost, you can always use it as a server...

It is a energy efficient machine... it has batteries so it will not be affected by shorter power interruptions.... it has some USB ports you can use for external disk space...

Department of crazy ideas

14" wide LCD screen for most laptops costs 4000-5000 baht in Thailand.

For ASUS 901 if I remember right it is less than 4000.

This is including the CFL lamp.

Labor costs not included.

I took my spare Asus laptop into the service centre in Bangkok last week for a new keyboard, fantastic service. I don't know if BKK is good for you but I can post details if you like.

Very Cute but have you fixed your ASUS challenge?

I'm waiting for call with a price from an IT guy, but he quoted approx. 3000 baht for a new screen. If so I will go ahead and have it fixed. I'm tempted to buy a new machine but the only advantage would be a bigger hard drive, so not really worth it.

I went to collect my ASUS 901 today after having a replacement screen installed at a cost of 3500 baht. I thought this price was fine and better than buying a new machine. However the guy informed me that some of the keys don't work. They did when I gave it to him as far as I know. So I decided that a new screen is useless if the keyboard does not work and had him remove the new screen. Looking online it seems a replacement keyboard is inexpensive in the Uk. I wonder what are the chances of finding one in Thailand? Any ideas.

I have the same netbook and broke the screen, I would love to hear what you found as a replacement.....

also broke my Dell Mini 9 screen and a new screen was under $50 US, ,

Others have said you can make them touch screens if you want,

there are forums just for those netbooks.....

I think that I will buy a replacement machine. I can buy the screen for 50 GBP and the keyboard for around 20GBP in the Uk, but I don't hold out much hope for a keyboard here. I've seen a decent Samsung netbook for around 10,000 baht locally. I will buy that and then repair the ASUS next time I'm in the Uk. For all the huge IT centers that have here I find that if I want anything slightly unusual they can't help.

It only cost me 700 Baht for a new Asus keyboard a couple of weeks ago at the asus service centre and it onlly took 20 minutes to fit. Have you asked them about a screen?

The repair of the screen and keyboard was going to be 4800 baht so I bought a replacement machine for 8300 baht instead. Maybe I will fix the ASUS later if I can find cheaper parts in the Uk.

This is the thing about using repairers, you never know what they're doing. I mean, could this guy have just switched the keyboard, because that lifts out very easily, you can almost do it with your fingernails.

But I have an external keyboard with my 701. I got it at pantip for about five english pounds. It plugs straight into the usb and works with everything out the box. I don't know if you like that idea. The plus side is, I put the main unit at eye level on the table, then sit astride with the little keyboard on my lap and type away.

Of course, not so good when I need to mousey.

Use eBay to get the parts you need (screen and keyboard), then take the lot to the chap in Tukcom that was mentioned in an earlier post. He DOESN'T break other things when fixing the main problem!
