Villagers in Surin Province turning crisis into opportunity

SURIN, 18 October 2010 (NNT) - Villages in Surin Province have turned the flood crisis into a money-making opportunity, selling different kinds of fish that come with the water to passers-by.

Continuous rain has caused floods in various areas in Surin Province; however, instead of just sitting idly watching flood ravage their rice fields, villagers have turned to catching fish that come with the overflow and selling them to people going through their area. A few of them claim they are making up to 1,000 baht a day from the fish. Vendors from the district of Prasart in Surin have set up makeshift tents or stalls to sell their catch, which include snake-head fish, eels, shrimps, as well as vegetables and clams to passers-by.
