2010-10-20 11:40:00 GMT+7 (ICT)

MEXICO CITY (BNO NEWS) -- A moderate earthquake shook the Mexican state of Sinaloa on Tuesday night, seismologists said, but there were no reports of damage or casualties.

The 5.9-magnitude earthquake at 10.09 p.m. local time (0409 GMT Wednesday) was centered approximately 125 kilometers (78 miles) south-southwest of the city of Guasave, Sinaloa. It struck about 13.2 kilometers (8.2 miles) deep, making it a very shallow earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The USGS estimated that approximately 5,000 people may have perceived moderate earthquake shaking, which could potentially result in light damage. Up to 2.4 million others may have felt weak to light shaking.
