Do "Rapid" Trains Have 3Rd Class?

Featured Replies

Google is failing me, so maybe someone here knows. Express trains DONT have 3rd class, ordinary trains DO have 3rd class - but anyone know if rapind trains have 3rd class?

Have you tried looking on railways.co.th ?

Rapid trains are 2nd and 3rd class trains. NO 1st class

One does not travel in 3rd class. Just not done. Very bad form. :whistling:

Some of the best rail journeys in Thailand are serviced only by 3rd class trains.Plus you get to be with the real Thais. For example:; Wong Wien Yai to Mahachai. Fabulous day out.Thonburi to Kanchanaburi - Nam Tok. (the death railway). Thonburi to Suphan Buri, , H.L. to Pattaya, H.L. to Aranyaprathet. This is the best way to see the real Thailand.

The cost difference between 2nd and 3rd isn't that big, it's really worth it if it's offered on the route you're going, far more comfortable. Only downside is the windows are tinted so you can't see, but you can just go in 3rd for a bit and go back when it's too hot

Showed up at station at 6:30am for the 6:40am and YES, as someone mentioned, rapid and ord all have 3rd class. 20B up and 15B back - 2 hours - great views, but amazing the flooding. 3rd class is great for short trips!

Except perhaps when 2nd-class turns out to be fully-booked.

Having once travelled 12-hours from Surat Thani to Bangkok, in 3rd class, I can only admire the stoic fortitude of the Thai railway-travellers. My bum took days to recover ! :o

But 4 hours Pattaya-Hualampong was quite fun, a couple of months ago, for those not-in-a-hurry, which did include 3-4 fellow farangs.

The mods do not think that geriatric kids comment was not "flaming" I am a little bit tired of these supercilious , so superior Farang ,laying "s*** on Thai Thais/ May I ask a simple question? .If you hate the Thai Thais ,so much <why are you living here?I actually live in Isarn ,I live with Thai Thais and have for many, many years, and I have had enough of these twerps who live in isolated castles in the sky , laying s*** on Isarn people. Farang ,who live in Bkk. or Pattaya etc.,Who have never been to Isarn, have no idea of who or what the people are. But pontificate ,on information gleaned from the bangkok post ,or the nation ,and never understand that the politics that they are reading is horribly screwed by the ruling chinese elite, coupled with the politics they invaded Thailand with from their home countries. It is so distressing.

And to think that this was all started by a farang ,who suggested it was beneath a farang's dignity to travel 3rd class on The Royal State Railways of Thailand.

there is also 2nd fan with open windows or closed if you wanna to

I highly recommend The Man in Seat 61's Thailand page. It has tons of helpful transportation information related to Thailand including the train system.
