NASA to host 'tweetup' during upcoming Space Shuttle Discovery mission

2010-10-26 21:37:11 GMT+7 (ICT)

HOUSTON (BNO NEWS) -- NASA will give fifty Twitter followers the opportunity next month to go inside the heart of a space shuttle mission, which will be Discovery's final mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

The Tuesday announcement of the Tweetup came a day after NASA set November 1st as launch date for the final mission of the Space Shuttle Discovery. The launch, at 4.40 p.m. EDT, will be made from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The Tweetup is currently scheduled to take place on November 9 at NASA's Johnson Space Center where participants will tour the center, view mission control and astronauts' training facilities. They will also get the opportunity to speak with managers, flight directors, trainers and astronauts. Additionally, participants will also meet with the team behind the @NASA and @NASA_Johnson Twitter accounts.

"The Tweetup attendees will get to visit the home of mission control during one of the last two scheduled shuttle flights," said Stephanie Schierholz, social media manager at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "In addition, they will get to share their experience of the excitement of human spaceflight with their followers around the world."

The registration for those wishing to participate in the Tweetup started at 10 a.m. EDT on Tuesday and will close at 10 a.m. EDT on Thursday. NASA will then select the 50 participants randomly.
