hi!

we are a young couple with a 6 month old baby that are due to arrive sunday morning if all goes well with our flights. we have never been to thailand before. we are staying at bandara on bo phut beach, but seeing all the videoes and reading the reports of the flooding scrares the crap out of us. does anyone know how the conditions are at bandara now, and if it's even worth travelling? we are planning to stay for 3 weeks, but if we have to stay indoors with a candle light all the time we might reconsider the hole thing...

i appreciate all info, thanks :)

Very nice avatar for a married man with a 6 month old babby- In all fairness- should be all ok (inless the 2nd part kicks in) Come to Samui no problem- Bandara will not be providing candels? well i hope not!

not married ;)

well, just got info from our airline that cancellation isn't an option unless samui turns into a war zone...so guess that leaves us no choice, we'll just have to make the best of it!

It's wrong !!! november is in Thailand the first month of the high saison. Usualy it's never rains after the 10th of the month. Just come with your girl frien and your child. Bo Phut is beautifull. I'm also ready to keep the candle if necessary

Do not worry. The recent cyclone that hit Samui was not a normal 'rainy season' storm.

As I type this, the sun is breaking through and the rain has stopped (for now).

Most large hotels and resorts have a generator for the power cuts, and the power cuts do not normally last that long. This week was the exception, not the rule.

Anyway - candle lit dinners are supposed to be romantic B)

Come and have great time :jap:

Sorry but NHJ is not wrong. November is not the start of high season on the islands and it IS the rainiest month of the year. October is the start of the rainy season, with November being the rainiest and it running into December but usually clearing up near the end.

november is in Thailand the first month of the high saison except the Samui area. Now it's monsum season here. Some years are more intensive, some years less. In the last years conditions got nice starting middle of November(except strong surfs and dangerous currents at some beaches).

1 Bandara is a lovely hotel.

2 November has more annual rainfall on Samui than any other month and its low season until December 20th, or thereabouts.

3 The weather now is dreadful but should clear up mostly by Friday. From then on its hit and miss, more likely "miss" with most days overcast with frequent outbreaks of rain varying in how prolonged and heavy.

4 Unless you are very very lucky with the weather holidaying here in November is best avoided if you are looking for a suntan.

5 i read one post stating its high season and stops rain after the 10th. Please disregard this post as it is totally incorrect.

This is a good reply for the OP.

To say things like "Bad time weather wise to come to Samui this is the rainy season till Christmas's your better off in Pattaya area" does not help the poster - I would guess that he is committed financially to his current booking.

For those that say "it's better not to come, november is rainny usually 24 hours per day, look at the chart on the internet regarding samui's weather." What utter tosh.:bah:

Yes it is rainy season. Wet and cooler. 5 years ago (or thereabouts) it rained all day every day for six weeks. Never happened before on Samui (according to the press at the time).

Last year, only 5 wet days in November (where I live). Remember - we have had water shortages on the island for most of this year!

All of the internet reports quoting rainfall etc are just statistics! According to statistics, every fourth poster to this forum is Chinese and we all have 2.2 children.

(I have always wondered where my .2 child went to B))

It is down to old fashioned luck.

To veggiss - you are booked into a nice hotel in a (very wet for now) pleasant village on a beautiful island. Enjoy your holiday. The cyclone has moved on and we may or may not get another on this year or in the next 10 years. Again, as I type the sun is shining!

Bandara is this very badly flooded.

if i was u. i would go to bangkok get a luxury hotel find a pub then do a shaun of the dead. look for the winchester and wait for all this to blow over :whistling:

I wouldn't worry OP you'll still have a great holiday. It won't rain solidly for two weeks and you will see some sunshine at least. Look on the bright side you may have just missed the worst of it. The Bandara has free brollies anyways.....!

Is it still good for snorkelling outside BigC?

BigC, can we come and snorkel outside your place.

You are starting to drink earlier & earlier PS.

sounds good :) even if it's wet, it's still 25 degrees warmer than norway at the moment :D

are there regular fights at the boxing stadiums in november?

I agree, it may be a bit wet at some times, but you will still have a nice vacation.

Live here 5+ years and ALL 5 Novembers. Just get some cheap light ponchos

just in case you are caught when out. It's not like it's terribly cold or anything.

If you have the cash rent a vehicle for the stay,

then you are always close to nappies and dry, but can still get out and about.

You are in a very nice place and Bophut is a foot friendly village.

Come and enjoy, even if it isn't sunburn city. Besides if it were totally sunny,

then It might get too hot for the little one, you can always bundle them up,

but too hot is always too hot.

There are two Thai-boxing arenas here on Samui, Samui Stadium and Petchbancha stadium.

They have fights several times a week.
