Speaker Nancy Pelosi to run for House Minority Leader

2010-11-06 01:47:30 GMT+7 (ICT)

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday announced that she will run to become House Minority Leader in the next Congress.

Pelosi, 70, the first female Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, initially made the announcement through her Twitter account that read: "Driven by the urgency of creating jobs & protecting #hcr, #wsr, Social Security & Medicare, I am running for Dem Leader."

Pelosi's office quickly followed with an official statement in which she speaks to her Democratic colleagues.

"Our work is far from finished," the statement reads. "As a result of Tuesday's election, the role of Democrats in the 112th Congress will change, but our commitment to serving the American people will not. We have no intention of allowing our great achievements to be rolled back. It is my hope that we can work in a bipartisan way to create jobs and strengthen the middle class."

"Many of our colleagues have called with their recommendations on how to continue our fight for the middle class, and have encouraged me to run for House Democratic Leader."

"Based on those discussions, and driven by the urgency of protecting health care reform, Wall Street reform, and Social Security and Medicare, I have decided to run."

Pelosi will be running for minority leader after the Democratic Party lost at least 60 seats, resulting in the Republicans taking control of the chamber.

The Republicans are as delighted by her continued presence as the Democrats are about Sarah Palin possibly running for president. Some people do nothing but detract from their own cause. :whistling:

As she is famous for saying that " The American people have spoken." she is delusional in thinking the AUTHORIZED American voting public support her. It is a power play pure and simple. The thought that the Democratic agenda cannot go forward without her is ludicrous. Jim Marshall from Georgia would have been a much better leader. The average person she is suppose to "represent" (a) doesn't know her (B) don't like her © wouldn't party with her which we all know is the most important thing to her constituents according to Entertainment Tonight!

Sorry simple changes

She will be up for a vote by her colleagues, the duly elected democratic party representatives of the House. I think she is brave to put herself up to such a vote now, so whatever happens, she can be proud of her service. The demonization she has endured is undeserved.

Your right, the DEMONEIZATION she brought upon herself isn't deserverd. She should be put upon a pedestal as a true symbol of true partnership. Perhaps a book tour of the the fine small town American who "adorn" her would be appropriate.

We even thought that she was waaaay out there when I was still a liberal and living in San Francisco many years ago. She very much deserves her reputation as a far left zealot. 1148.gif

I don't think she's a far left zealot. She's actually a bit of a suzy home maker and given her strict Catholic upbringing as a young girl she hasn't strayed much from it despite her being cast as a leftie. No allegations of marital affairs, or boozing with hookers have surfaced with this lady have they? Has anyone accused her of propositioning sex from someone in another bathroom stall? Did she seduce and sodomize any Congressional Pages? I don't think so. Those are all allegations that spoke to the moral bankruptcy of some Republican Congressmen.

Face it, she is disliked because she did her job. And one of tasks was to get the healthcare legislation bill passed. If the Republicans could have had people as tough as her in previous years I doubt Mr. Clinton would have been elected. If Republicans want her out it's because she's good at her job of getting bills passed. I certainly don't blame the Republicans for wanting her out. They are wise to do so.

However, before people pee on her, keep in mind that she's the one that blocked the move to have impeachment hearings for President Bush . She has been consistent in her opposition from Day 1 on the Iraq invasion, and against waterboarding (just like many Republicans). I don't agree with the lady on many issues, but I can respect her skills and intelligence.

Again, I say it is unfair to affix labels of Right or Left on many congressional reps and senators as their views often cross the political blue line.

I used the term far left zealot because I did not want to get a "vacation" from the mods for calling her something else that we are not allowed to say. :D

Well someone slept with Bristol Palin and left spermies in her sufficient to make her an unwed teenage mother at the age of 17. (Good parenting skills there Sarah. You keep preaching those family values shucks, nyuck, nyuck, nyuck))

None of Nancy Pelosis 5 kids has made a name for him/herself through crime or stupid acts. Nancy must have done something right to have 5 respectable decent kids right? So maybe some people have a fetish for powerful moms? I could set up a fetish scenario for you but I think our local babysitter, err mod, might blush, and then ban me for giving everyone nightmares. :D But c'mon, I bet you wont't have a trim figure and energy level she has when you get to her age. I'd be lucky to have a wife like her. She could put on her old Catholic schoolgirl uniform and............................ n'er mind.
