Army Chief Denies Coup Plot

The army chief has denied that he is preparing to stage a military coup during the People's Alliance for Democracy's rally being held to protest against the Memorandum of Understanding regarding the Thai Cambodian border issues.

Army chief General Prayuth Chanocha said he has no plans to stage a military coup during the protests being led by the People's Alliance for Democracy, or PAD, against the Memorandum of Understanding that was countersigned by the Thai Cambodian Joint Border Committee in 2000.

His denial follows suggestions by the Pheu Thai party list MP Jatuporn Prompan, who is also a red shirt leader, that the PAD is holding the rally to pave way for a military coup.

The army chief said the 2006 coup was aimed at ending the then political conflict, but that the present situation is different.

The general declined to comment on the approval of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra on the national reconciliation plan, saying the matters is the the government's responsibility.

He also said that security measures for VIPs and efforts to maintain peace and order in the country are being heighten, after reports of attempted assassinations of certain important figures.

Regarding his policy concerning the border dispute with Cambodia, the army chief insisted the army will not allow any loss of the country's territory.

Motor mouth running out of control(l) again I see.

If the idiot had brains for dynamite he wouldn't even have enough to, ''blow his nose.''

To think, but for a few days either way Jutaporn Prompan would have been but a brief period in his mothers life and we would all have been spared the inane hate rhetoric and ridiculious pontifications of the man .

I think the correct phrase is 'dynamite for brains'. ;)

Am so glad to hear that the army has no intention of breaking the law.

Who asks these dumb questions.....?

The Royal Thai Army has said that 20 times in the last 50 years. How many coups has Thailand had?

For all the coups they have had, I would wager that they have stated that there won't be a coup at least 500 times more frequently.

The only public answer to this question is "No". In fact you are more likely to get a 'yes' if he had been asked "Are you a woman?"

Absolutely ,I am a little different to you .I have lived in Isarn for over 20 years. I know the people well .The sad thing is so many of you have no experience of living in Isarn ,or knowing how the Isarn people have been treated for far to long.

You're well aware that Jutaporn is well known by all for his perpetual lying abilities?

I'll take it your skill for a coarse, insulting tone defending such a person was obtained outside Isaan?

I would like to ask the author of the original posting - Do you truly believe that a sitting General will admit that he or his staff is planning a coup?

My next question to you is why do you even ask the question, a coup is an illegal act, so you are asking a ranking military officer if he is going to break the law?

May I ask you, what makes you think this person will answer you with and does his answer have any credibility?

Why do we ask such questions, are you implying that you are ok if there is a coup? Why should we tolerate the Military bully the citizens of Thailand again, don't you think the previous 20 coups are enough?

Just a few thoughts.....

Cheers

C

Actually, he got it from siampolee, someone allied to your way of thinking, I believe.

Motor mouth running out of control(l) again I see.

Five months ago, his lawyer said the courts were merciful to his client in granting him bail.

He's been abusing that mercy ever since.

Fellow Red Shirt Leader Veera was granted bail and we haven't heard a peep out of him since. That he refrain from provocative speeches was a condition of Veera's bail, but apparently that's not been the case with this Red Shirt Leader.

Eh? Sorry ,I thought I said I have lived in Isarn for more than 20 years. Did you miss that? Lying ? Is he? Your perception .A little different to the peasants here.

I do not really understand.

A coup to remove who? and replace with who?

Army chief openly does not support Reds or PT Party.

So if the was a coup, presumably to remove democrats from the government, but then who would he support?.

To be honest to me it makes not sense and if anything its another poor attempt by PT to create instability in the country and the government

Of course not. They , presently are an embarrasreent to the the Govt., over their stance on Khao Phreah Viharn. But they are S### stirring. That is all.Now they are also ,trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill, about The 3 Ta Muens

So doesn't that mean that Jatuporn is lying (again) when he suggests that they are preparing for a coup?

*sigh*

I think he's been reading and listening to the red propaganda for most of those 20 years too.

Reading and listening to Red propaganda? Sorry, that is not possible. Every Red radio station, every Red T.V. station, has been shut down by the present Govt. Months ago ,The Red shirts have no effective media. Thailand , now rates as about the the 120th most deprived country in the world. With respect to freedom of the media. Source> Reporters without Borders. It appears that over 200,000 websites are blocked or banned in Thailand.

Who made the allegations about a coup again?

Ah, same as the last time. And the time before that, etc etc etc.

Just look at the history, when the ruling classes are under threat they have a coup. Usually every 31/2 yrs. One s coming, not sure of the reason, you can bet your hairy bean bag on it. The Peua Thai have just stated the obvious in a vain attempt to delay it

"its another poor attempt by PT to create instability in the country

and the government"

That is the crux of it right there.

Instability is the ONLY thing that can give PTP anything resembling an edge.

But their main instigator of these attempts, has so little credibility outside

red circles (tail chasing) that most Thais don't get riled about his blather.

That said, It is the boiler plate announcement of the new army head,

not that he takes Jatuporns rants seriously, but better to just state 'no',

for those few who may be credulous enough to think J. is realistic.

There is not logical or pressing reason for an army coup,

army head is not letting that side of the army out of his control.

Because for that to happen at this state would mean he has acquiesced to it.
