Tot Adsl Problem

Recommended Posts

I've just returned from the uk and have started using my ADSL

again after 2 months. I'm having trouble loading internet pages,

the computer thinks about it for around 25 seconds then goes to the

error page.

I checked the modem setup and there is a strong ADSL connection.

I phoned TOT and they said the same.

This is where it gets abit strange because somtimes it works well for

around an hour, then it's back to not working. I noticed that the

"bytes received" and "bytes transmitted" are very low.

It works well when I first connect then dies on me, so I have to reconnect

several times just to get anything done.

I'm with TOT ADSL 1024/256

I'm using a ZyXEL Prestige 630-C modem

I hope this is enough information and that someone can help me with

this.

Thanks

Are you using a firewall? I've had that problem a few times and its been a bad upgrade of zonealarm. If this is the case try reinstalling it.

You may also have your TCP/IP buggered. Double-click on your Local Area Connection and make sure it matches the settings you're supposed to have. In most cases you should have it set to obtain an IP address and DNS server address automaticly. If you are unsure, look at your startup package documantation, or call back to TOT and get the correct numbers from them.

Good luck

Thanks for your reply, I'm using zonealarm pro. I've just uninstalled

it , and so far, so good, it seems to have done the trick.

Thanks for your help with this.

So if I re-install it, will the problems start over??

Don't know what to do now, as the problem is back. I uninstalled

the pro version and reinstalled the basic version from download.com.

Afew hours later and the problem has returned, even when not using Pro.

I've used zonealarm for quite some time and have never had this problem.

I checked the local area connection but couldn't find what you suggested.

I brought the laptop back to the UK with me but it was only used for

listening to music, so I thought all the settings would remain the same

and everything would work the same.

Anymore suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm hoping it's not a virus or spyware! because my laptop tends to overheat

and turn off occasionaly. I have adaware, spybot and spysweeper but they

have come back with the all clear, but my norton antivirus can never finish

its scan before the laptop turns itself off.

My question is can spyware be embedded in programs and then not found when it is searched for?

My problems with zonealarm ended with a good reinstall. It seems that when ZA crashes it closes everything off as a security mesure, or so I assume. Other than that I highly reccomend it.

Go to START -----> Settings -----> Network & Dialup Settings ----> local Area connection ----> properties ----> Now highlight 'Internet protocol (tcp/ip)' and click 'properties'

It should look like what you see in the picture. If not do these things:

- Refer to your ISP's documentation to get the dns server's IP address.

- Click on the "?" on the tcp/ip properties box (like in the photo) and follow the instructions.

- Ask again if you need more help.

I have had problems with the two latest upgrades of ZoneAlarm Pro.

Upgrading gave the problem.

When I deleted the sw and reinstalled all was fine.

Thanks for this, mine is the same as the one you have shown.

The ADSL seems to be abit better today so I'm keeping fingers crossed

that theun-install of pro did the job, and I will leave the standard version

there for now.

Thanks for your help
