Driving To Kengtung, Myanmar

Featured Replies

Next week I thought I'd take a drive from Mae Sai up to Kengtung (aka Kyaingtong aka Chiang Tung) in Myanmar. I've done it twice before, 6 and 9 years ago respectively, and it was easy to arrange although the road was terrible (and terribly fun).

What I'm hearing nowadays is that the road is much better, driving time reduced to around three hrs (in contrast to 9-12 hrs in the old days), but I'm wondering whether it's still possible to drive your own vehicle all the way, as it was before.

Thanks.

Moving to the Thailand Travel Forum in hopes someone has done the drive recently.
