I have been looking at flight prices and there appears to have been a dramatic increase in flights out of the UK from January. A couple of weeks ago KLM flights were listed at about £640, now they are £820-£890 each.

I notice that flights to Hong Kong are unchanged at just under £600

The flights I'm looking at is for mid January to early/mid July and is with KLM from Birmingham to either Bangkok or Hong Kong

They have increased by more than £200 per seat to Bangkok while the Hong Kong flights remain relatively cheap, can anyone think of a reason for this ?

Is it due to the flights being overbooked or are we likely to see the prices coming down at some point ? I've heard that if a lot of people are booking then they can put the prices up only to reduce them later, I'm not sure how accurate this is though.

I've been searching for flights LHR/BKK early -mid December for 3-4 weeks. I know this is the most expensive time to fly, but have noticed at least a 200 GBP hike. Anyone?

Thanks for the replies. I'll check out westeast, I forgot about them.

I'm a bit fussy about my travel arrangements, I try to never fly long haul during the day, only overnight and I won't go to any of the 'middle east' countries due to their draconian laws regarding drugs and their fondness for throwing foreigners in prison. I also like my layovers to be no more than about 2 hours, just enough time for me to grab a steak dinner and go to the gate.

Hi ukrules, you can get a short 1.5 - 2 hour stopover in the gulf if your lucky which is great for stretching the old legs and will save a great deal of money taking this route.

I wouldn't be worried about being arrested and incarcerated either, your obviously aware of the risks of carrying a couple of codeine tabs so not likely to effect you and to be honest out of the millions of transit passengers it's is only a tiny few caught, bummer for them I agree but not worth worrying about imo.
