Sadly, this is not surprising. The amount of sugar they consume in various forms is insane. Consider the fact the nearly EVERY beverage and most sweets are absolutely saturated with sugar, combine that with the fact white rice is metabolized into sugar VERY quickly, you have a recipe for type II diabetes. How many new cases could be prevented with a modicum of education and social advertising?

It's just nuts to me that more people don't eat brown rice. Not only is it FAR better for you, it's better for the environment too - less processing equals less waste.

Thanks Daren, I really didn't know that about white rice. But its the pork, chicken, bread and just about everything else. But one good thing - there is a chain of street vendors in Pattaya who used to sell fresh orange juice with sugar and salt. I notice recently there business has improved as the juice now is free of both. Maybe someone listened to a farlang?
