Living In Thailand

Featured Replies

I am interested to know how much money in USD a person would need to live a comfortable life in Bangkok. Similar to middle class in the United States. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Taoism: shit happens

Buddhism: if shit happens, it isn't really shit

Islam: if shit happens, it is the will of Allah

Catholicism: if shit happens, you deserve it

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

Thanks for taking the time to search totster.

:D

Took no time at all..... It's surprising how quick and easy it is really... :o

totster :D

Some of the links were comparing prices in Korat Etc. where expecially rent is much cheaper. I will give it a shot (1 person) based on lower level expat (not talking bank GM but more a lower level manager which should fit your description):

Monthly

Rent = 20000 (1-2 bedrooms. Pool. Gym. Security)

Food = 10000 (besides groceries includes fast food/order food+happy hour beer)

Utilities = 5000 (1 aircon on 24/7 is about half of it+fridges Etc. Internet+cable)

Clothing = 500 (cheap here)

Eating out twice a week at a nice restaurant = 4000/mth

Insurance = health: 20000/year

Cost of owning a car = 25000/year (Include insurance+tax. not incl. gas/repairs)

So in USD that gets to about $1100/mth. Add in gas/cash buffer for insurance deductables/holidays and visa runs(+a few more nights out? :o ) and $1500/mth will give you a nice middle class lifestyle in Bangkok. Additional money for partying a lot at fancy clubs are hard to estimate.

Cheers!

Maybe a compulsory search lesson or two could be included in the process of signing up to the forum . :o

Very good reply Firefan. :D
