KABUL (BNO NEWS) -- Afghan and coalition forces killed two suspected insurgents during an operation in southeastern Afghanistan on late Saturday evening, according to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

ISAF said the operation was conducted in the Shah Joy district of Zabul province, targeting a Taliban leader who was identified as Amarat. He and the second suspected insurgent were killed when they opened fire at Afghan and coalition forces as they approached the targeted building.

"The joint team returned fire, killing the two terrorists," ISAF said, adding that the troops found a chest rack along with multiple weapons and ammunition during a search of the compound.

ISAF alleged that Amarat was involved in improvised explosive device (IED) attacks and the kidnapping of Afghan government officials. The alliance did not release other details to further support its allegations.
