Thai Passport Rule.

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if this fact is correct, when a Thai girl gets her 1st passport, she cannot use it for 6 months, can go to any neighbouring country,

ie,Cambodia,Laos,Myanmar, but not Europe, until she has had it 6 months,i think this is correct, but want it verified,

Thank you to anyone who knows for sure.

not true at all.

who told you this? Sounds like bar talk experts to me....

On the other hand, passports with less than 6 months validity left on them are generally pretty useless for travel, unless you are traveling back to your home country.

Thai people do not need a passport to visit neighbouring Countrys,.The Thai passport is valid from the first date in it, untill the expirery date that is inside.. Like most other countrys you have to have at least 6 months left on your pasport dates to trave.l

Why. ?...you just jumped in and said "all neighbouring Countrys"....which is factually incorrect....per the examples cited

Cambodia.....requires a passport AND visa (visa requirement due to be changed in Dec 2010)

Laos - Requires a PP

Myanmar - Requires a PP

Vietnam - Requires a PP

Singapore - Requires a PP

Malaysia - Requires a PP

In certain instances, Thai nationals can cross a land border with an ID card only, but fly anywhere and they need a PP

Have I stated clear enough why you are wrong...:whistling:

Thanks for correcting me , your attitude stinks ,I will not be posting here again, Yes things change , that's what forums are for, Good luck with your abrupt postings.

Errr, yeah Soutpeel.

What a terrible attitude you have for correcting somebody. Don't ever give the correct information on a forum again! Posters have the right to be fed the wrong information. blink.gifcrazy.gif

I would actually like to know just what specifically you thought the situation was rather than running away when someone responds that you were incorrect. The fact that you posted patently incorrect and unspecific info required an immediate response.

Even to say "most countries" seems incorrect. As I am of the undertsanding that it is only SOME border crossings that allow DAY passes for Thais. Mae Sai for example. However, I thought day passes had been abolished at Aran for years, as another example.

As for the OPs query, some common sense should prevail. Where did you hear this dribble and why would you think that there would be some restriction only relating to women (though you did state "girl" which would mean under 18) and only to non ASEAN countries???

Agree with samran and I quote 4 examples:

- My Thai son used his passport for travel within 7 days of issue.

- My Thai son's passport was reissued because his family name was changed, and he travelled abroad the next day after issue.

- My Thai grandaughter used her passport for travel within about 3 days of issue.

- My son's Thai wife used hers within 3 or 4 days of issue.

As samran mentions most countries have a policy which says that there must be at least 6 months remaining (remaining to the expiry date of the passport), or they won't put a visa into the passport.
