THE NTC WILL SWITCH PHONE NUMBER SYSTEM TO ENCOMPASS 10 DIGITS

The National Telecommunication Commission will readjust the usage of phone numbers, from 9 digits to 10 digits.

NTC Secretary-General Suranan Wongwitthayakamjorn (สุรนันท์ วงศ์วิทยกำจร) said that rapid development of the country, coupled with economic growth, had caused a problem of an inadequate quantity of phone numbers. Thus, to accommodate use for the next 30 years, the NTC is arranging a usage plan for the home, public, and mobile phone numbers. The 9-digit system currently in use will be switched to a 10-digit system. Work is now being done to gather opinions from related persons. Meanwhile, the NTC will rapidly engage in creating understanding among the public on this matter. The conversion is expected to be officially announced at the beginning of next year.
