I have to travel many times from BKK airport to Rayong for work, on these taxi trips the driver normally gets stopped by the police 2-3 times for some feeble excuse and has to hand over some cash.

Why don't they have a corruption fee when you pay the highway toll that way we can travel without getting pulled over.

Or why not sort out the corrupted police force?

I think there is more chance of building a "police corruption surcharge" into the toll rather than addressing the issue of police corruption

To be fair on the police, many of them lurk around the toll booths so they can relieve the drivers of money without requiring them to stop, I think they call it a captive market.

I do this trip fairly frequently also. The only times I have been stopped is when I was speeding. They do have speed traps setup near the toll booths. But other than that, I've not had any problems during this trip.

Was your taxi driving fast?

Actually I have never been stopped on the freeway or even pulled over by the police lurking around the toll booths, so maybe they are targeting real offenders.

i was caught speeding at 149km/h once along the way to pattaya.

was driving at 160km/h when i saw the traffic police with the camera, stepped on the brakes and changed lanes but was still caught at 149km/h.

tried to settle the case at 200, failed. tried 500 thb, failed too.

was given a ticket, and they took my license.

i guess not all police officers are corrupted.

in the end, have ask for a friend to retrieve it for me at klong toei tollway station.

When I got caught, I was doing 122km/h. I know because I was trying to keep it around 120km/h and saw I was a bit above. Wifey and I noticed a lot of cars flashing their lights coming the other way on the elevated expressway, but we were listening to music and talking too much to figure out what it meant!

At the toll booth, they motioned me over. A guy showed me a notebook with 122 written on it....below a bunch of other numbers. Sure enough, that is what I was doing. Was told 500B at the station, wifey said we were in a hurry. He looked around, then leaned in the window and asked for 250B. It was handed over hidden and he slid it into his pocket.

I've been stopped several times...but every time we were doing something wrong. No helmet, illegal U turn, speeding, no seat belt, etc. And only once did they keep our license and make us go to the station and pay the fine. That was in Phuket and the line to pay the ticket was only farangs!

I say the same thing every day to my Thai Wife........Why Dont they???/......She calls me Mr Why Dont.laugh.gif..........

I SAY

Sack half the police force and pay the remaining police officers a reasonable wage

And if you want to free up traffic jams in inner Bangkok take off 50% of the empty Taxis driving around empty during peak hours and get rid of the fleets of Polluting 30 year old buses .

Slowly Killing Everyone.

Hey.....Theres a start.............jap.gif

Both direction's) a few time's lately, in between the pay booth's speed limit is' 120kph they have been useing a radar check anyone going over even by a few kph and the fine is 500bt. Got done once so I know the price. Now keep at 119 (C/Control) yesterday no problem's for me, but load's paying up they have got about 10 cop's there to sort it out + 6/8 gir'ls taking the cash. Nice little earner.

At 500B /hit, 4000b for a radar detector is getting close to being worth it..

I've never been fined more then 200b for speeding (worst was 76km/hr over the limit), so haven't really been bothered about it, but bigger fines could change my outlook ;)
